A 500cc Support class will be part of the program at the 125cc United States Grand Prix Motocross at Steel City MX Park in Delmont. Pennsylvania. According to the AMA. the class will be open to Expert. Junior and ProAm riders on a post entry basis. For more information contact the AMA at 614/891-2425. West German Martin Wimmer and Australian KeVin Magee combined LO give Yamaha its first-ever victory in the Suzuka 8-Hour endurance race in Suzuka City, Japan, on july 26. Wimmer/Magee and their YZF750 topped the Gary Goodfellow/Katsw:o Takayoshi (Suz) team and thirdplaced john Kocinski/<;:aJvin Rayborn III (Yam). Three-time winner Wayne Gardner and his teammate Dominique Sarron finished 32nd after Sarron crashed the Honda VFR750 twice. Dane Erik Gundersen (13 points) won the World Speedway Intercontinental round of the World Speedway Championship in Vojens. Denmark. on July 26. Gundersen defeated Jimmy Nilsen (12 points) and Hans Nielson (11 points) to take the win. U.S. hopefuls Sam Ermolenko (9 points) and John Cook (9 points) both qualified for the finals to be held in Amsterdam. Holland. on September 5-6. The third American set LO represent the U.S. in the Intercontmental round. Kelly Moran, was injured two weeks ago in California and missed out on the Denmarlc race. Ironically, his place in the event was taken by England's Chris Morton who is credited for saving Moran's life last year in Poland when the southern Californian severed an artery in his wrist on a plate of glass. Morton took Moran's place in Denmark and promptly qualified for the final. The Human Race Team's Kurt Hall. Andy Fenwick. Ben Martinez. John Eidenberger and TIm Morrissey (Yam) won the WERA/ EBC Brakes Nelson Ledges 24Hour endurance road race in Warren. Ohio. on July 25-26 after completing 1018 laps. Solmax Racing (Yam) finished second. three laps behind the Human Race Team. with Genesis Racing (Yam) rounding out the top three. The Human Race Team's 1018 laps set a new 24-hour record for the Nelson Ledges Road Course. Jim Thompson Jr. (Hon) won the sixth round of the AMA ational Hare and Hound Championship Series in Flagstaf£, Arizona, on july 25. Second place went LO jeH Darland (Hon) with Paul Krause (Hon) . finishing third. The 250cc class win fell to Darin Cartwright (Yam) while JeH Miller (Hon) topped the 125cc field. Kevin Brown (Hon) topped Tony Hendon (C-A) and Mark Hyde (Hus) to win the Burr Oak. Indiana. round of the AMA National Championship Hare Scrambles Series on July 26, 2 The WERA road race scheduled for August 8-9 at Hallet Raceway in Hallet, Oklahoma, hali been cancelled. WERA will hold a race September 5-6 at St. Louis International Raceway. The event will be a North Central Regional race and will have Yamaha and Honda contingencies. The U1tracross portionof the Mickey Thompson's Off-Road Championship Gran Prix at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, July 25, saw Tyson Vohland (Kaw) capture the overall victory. Second place fell to Doug Dubach (Yam) followed by jon Nelson (Hon), jeff Mabery (Yam) and jon Ormer (Hon). Kansasl The Rooks County Free Fair will host the $2000 doubleheader on August 13-14 with action scheduled for 1 p.m. both days. American Honda wil! be sending two Team Honda Support trucks and three Support technicians to both the NMA MX Championships at Ponca City, Oklahoma, (August 3-9) and the AMA Youth/Amateur MX Championships at Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, (August 10-15). The technicians will provide Hondamounted riders with tech advice and assistance on set-up and maintenance. A limited number of parts for 1987 CR's will be on hand for outof-the-ordinary repairs. Both the advice and parts wilI be provided free of charge. Because the supply of parts will be limited, competitors are urged to bring their own supply of parts for routine maintenance such as pistons, rings, gaskets, clutches, chains and sprockets. A public hearing on AB241 O. a bill by California Assemblyman Steven Peace (D-Chula Vista) which would reverse a directive by the State Department of Parks and Recreation to be" off-road vehicles from Anza Borrego State Park. has been postponed until August 19.
