removed to get inside. The problem with the new design, however, is that water sneakif!g into the airbox is more likely than before, since the airbox openin~ is lower. The clutch ill the KTM has been slightly redesigned to improve clutch pull. Compared to last year's 250, it takes about half lhe eHon to actuate the clutch; one or two fingers on the lever can get the job done. . Tucked in nicely around the motor is the KTM's exhaust pipe. Where it exits the cylinder, lhe pipe doesn't hang too low and is less likely to get smashed by rocks and logs. The exhaust snakes its way around the left side of the motorcycle; attached to the end of the pipe is an aluminum silencer that does not sport a spark arrester. Surrounding the motor is an allnew frame. The frame was redesigned to lower seat height but to maintain quick teering action. Found at both ends of the frame is White Power suspension units. Basically, both the upside down fork, and the single shock rear suspension, . are the same as lhe units on KTM's 1986250, except for valving changes. Both front and rear suspensions feature plenty of external rebound and compression damping adjustments. One of lhe biggest complaints (and iI legitimate one at that). KTM enduro owners had last year was the rear disc brake. Under normal riding conditions, the caliper assembly would overheat and braking action would be lost. Some enduro riders would carry water and douse the rear brake assembly in order to maintain Chris "galanlanp,.s.nrs ...' A 2-DAY SPEEDWAY SUPER EVENT! KTM solved.the overheating problem this year by remounting the disc assembly to the rear wheel hub and improving disc material. The disc now fits £lush to the hub, which enables the heat to dissipate (into the hub) in more places. Last year, lhe disc would get hot because there was no place for the heat to escape from the disc, so lhe pads would overheat, causing the caliper to get red hot, thus boiling lhe brake fluid. To improve stopping power, both £Tom and rear discs have sone from two-piston units to four pIstons.
