'Rick Ryan' (12) topped both 125cc Support motos. His nearest rival was Ty Davis (220), who went 2-2 for second overall.
Johnson led all but one lap in both
motos for the 250cc victory.
Johnson. "I had to straighten myself
up, because I didn't want to wash
out."
Two turns later, Vehkonen was
leading the way ahead of Mortensen,
Johnson, Nils on, Geboers, Holland's Leo Combee, Shaun Kalos,
Herring, Sweden's Michele Fanton,
Collin Dugmore and Billy Frank.
Hannah was running near the back
of the pack.
"I got a bad start and everyone
closed in on me," said Hannah. "I
don't really know what happened."
With Hannah in the back of the
pack, the crowd was expecting LO see
a come-from-behind charge by the
Suzuki rider, but it never materialized. Hannah, who said before the
race he felta little "burned out" from
traveling to Japan and Europe so
many times lately for international
races and testing, never made a move
to the fronl. .

"My bike had a brand new mOLOr
and gearbox," said Hannah, "and I
chose the wrong detent spring. It was
too light of a spring at first, then
I chose one LOO heavy and it made
shifting too sti££. I don't think it let
it go inLO gear all the way. Whenever
I had good traction, and I was really
on the ga , it would slip out of gear.
And when I had it laid over, I,
obviou Iy, twisted my stinkin' legs
right oCr."
After the moLO, in whi h Hannah
placed 30th, he called it quits. ''I'm

be twisting my knees out of joint.
There's no use pushing it."
After com pleting one la p, Johnson
had found his way into the lead with
Vehkonen running second ahead of
Mortensen,
ilsson, Combee,
Herring, Fanton,. Dugmore and
Frank. O'Mara was rnidpack. "He
(Johnson) passed me on the first
lap," said Vehkonen. "He took some
inside line and passed me. I had
