Steve Raymond dove under Aguilar in the fifth lap and managed lO grab a fast line which shot him past Woody Rodgers, Bobby McDowell and SCOll Chappell to lake over the third spot. Cantrell conquers Stepp Mill MX By loren & Barbara Williams TRAVELERS REST, SC, JULY 3 David Cantrell claimed a convincing win in the Senior Mini class despite the slightly gooey conditions and fierce competition at Stepp Mill's MX. In both Senior Mini races, Cantrell came out of the gate in front, using the slick and sloppy-first turn to good advanlage. Bo Shannon was able lO dodge the glop in the qualifier race and flogged his Yamaha YZ80 to get within striking distance of Cantrell, only to bobble on the last lap and finish second, ahead of Marcus Cannon. In the main race, Cannon and Cantrell were able lO negotiate the first turn without mishap, but Shannon and Benjamin Williams weren't so lucky. In the act of turning, Shannon's mount lost its footing and skidded into Williams' Yamaha, laking them both down. Thank lO protective gear, neither rider wa more than "bumped up." Cannon and Cantrell had a COOlest of their own, but Cantrell was uncatchable and he scored the win. Riding with the combined 125cc Novice/125cc Amateur class, Team Yamaha support racer Robbie Taylor kept in practice for forthcoming appearances in Ponca City, Oklahoma, and the Lorella Lynn's Amateur ationals in Tennessee, among other races. Taylor was off the line at the head of the pack in the main, and he turned around to 125 c Amateur leader Chad Pill and gave . him the come-ahead ign. Pill gave chase and Lbe two were off. Eventually they lapped everyone in the field except Allen Barnes, who was right behind them the whole way, followed by Shawn Smolen, Rex Barnes and Billy TrOller of the Novice cla s. Results 50: 1.
