The KTM's short kickstarter requires a hefty kick. and feel of the rear brake was first class all the way, and it performed equally as well in wet conditions. Many times we completely submerged the whole rear hub assembly, and the rear brake never winced. The from disc brake worked flawlessly, too: One or two fingers on the from brake lever slowed the KTM down in a hurry, without the worry of the front wheel locking up, even on hard-packed, dry ground. The KTM is a comfortable motorcycle to ride, although the seat is a little too firm. Foolpeg positioning is well placed, and the handlebars liive a comfortable bend. Levers and controls are European-like in feel not quite as smooth-working as most Japanese enduro models and motocrossers, but smooth enough to be likable. Clutch pull on the KTM is noticably lighter and action is smoother this year. Many times we put the KTM's clutch through the paces, but it never started dragging when it heated up, although it did feel slightly mushy and lose some of its crispness. We were very impressed with the KTM's water cooling. The radiators never overheated or boiled over, even after we got the KTM stuck in a bottleneck while trying to climb a steep hill, on a goo-plus day in a southern California desert enduro.
