Andreu took the lead but soo n had Epps all over him. Epps lat er sai d, " I followed him a coup le of laps and was checking out his lin es. I needed to figure out wh ere I wanted to pass him. Wh en I saw I had th e cha nce I made the move and go t ar ound him pretty easy, but he was still rig ht th ere o n my tail. " Seminole H o nd a , P i r ell isponsored Andreu said, " I'm used to regular trac ks in the area that don 't do anythi ng to th e tracks all day. I' learned a lesson this time. T hey groomed the track during interm issio n. I didn 't bother to wa lk it a nd wen t out th ere looking to take th e same lines I did in the first rnoto. The mot a was also shortened by two laps a nd I didn 't know it. " Earl May and Andreu battled over the lead at th e start of th e first 250cc A moto. And reu led for part of th e first lap but go t passed up by May. " My concen tra tio n broke, and I got passed," Andreu said. "The n I ~ot my stu ff toge ther a nd moved back mto the lead and won ." Eddie Wasdin rode tight on May's tail, th en moved into second but was unab le to make a move o n Andreu. May appeared to have the second mo ta holesho t but dropped back. Andreu moved out front th en sai led th roughout th e moto with Wasdin inches behind. In th e last lap Andreu wen t down. " I was in th e lead and could have had it in th e bag," Andreu said. " My concentration broke. I went into th e berm a nd caugh t my handlebar on a tir e. I fell off and there I was o n th e gro und with my leg stu ck under th e bik e." Wasden a nd May cruised on to finish ahead of Andreu . "It was very fortunate for me that he fell ," Wasdin said. " I was waiting for a mistake and tim e was running ou t. I was trying to put all th e pressure on him that I could." Ronald Galliano and Steve Rodriguez moved out front at the start of the first 250cc C moto but were soo n left behind to battle over the fourth place position behind leaders Broussard, Jared King and Dusty Holt. King pulled ahead in the whoops. Near th e end of the mota Broussard's chargi ng paid off when he moved back out front to go in for the win. Kin g said, " I just tired. The heat go t to me and mad e me sick." King held a strong lead a t the start of moto two. H e fell , injuring his ann, bu t fini shed th e moto in pain. Broussard went in for the win with Holt, Floyd Carter, Rodrigu ez and Galliano rounding ou t th e top five: Holt's 3-2 ta lly was good enough for second overall and Ca rter cla imed third with his 4-3 mo to score. Fenn, Andreu win at Hyman Myers MX By Athie Sanders T ALLA H ASSEE, FL , J ULY 5 Ryan Fenn and Alan Andreu claimed o ver a ll w in s in th eir respect ive classes - 125cc C and 250cc A d uri ng ro und two of th e Sout heastern Championsh ip MX Series a t H yman Myers Raceway. Kawasaki-mounted Fenn led Brad Stoller and Howard Green at the sta rt of th e first 125cc C mo ta . Green ended up at th e rear of the pack after sta lli ng out in the th ird tum. Kei th J ones pressured Sto ller for three laps the n moved ahead a t the end of a whoop section. Fen n , pic king up speed with each lap, sai led in for an impressive win . J on es and Sto ller followed; William s Rh odes and Irvin La wson ro unded ou t th e top five. Heavy bl ack clouds rolled i n bringing with th em a typical shortlived T all ahassee afte rnoon down pour just after th e star t of th e seco nd rnot os. The 125cc C rid ers knew exactly wha t th ey were . in for , h aving watched other cl asses , but most sho wed up at the line anxious to do battle in the red-clay slop . Fenn was slow off the gate th en picked his way past downed or struggling riders. Jones, riding out front, appeared to he the more experien ced of th e deep water-mud riders. Fenn closed on Jones near the end of the moto, They both went down , resulting in a stru ggle to see who could pull their Kawaskai back into a stable upright pos itio n a nd rem oun t most q uickly. J on es nearl y', wo n out, but Fenn pu lled it into-shape and took over the lead to go in for th e win ahea d of J ones. Sto ller, H al Mills and Rhodes followed. Earl May sta rted off stro ng in moto o ne of the 250cc A class but Andreu quickly too k the lead and sai led all the way to th e win. Eddie Wasdi n worked his way upto finish second ahead of May. Wasdin jumped out fro nt and led through th e mud duri ng mota two, leaving Andreu to demonstrate a less than desirab le riding style. Andreu ended up with the win, but no t fro m a collection of smoo th mov es. Wasdin 's bik e stalled ou t and he had to be aid ed off th e track. Wasdin said, " I was go ing good, but I tri ed to cha ng e m y lin e and it didn 't work o ut. I p icked a bad li ne, went th rough it and drown ed ou t. Simone dusts CRC Bobcat Enduro By Bill and Kathy Herndon RAND , CA, J U NE 14 • Fresno's Donnie Simo ne, rid in g o n minute two, survived the heat and dust to ca pture th e overa ll victory a t th e CR C Bobcat End uro. O n a co urse th a t featured mos t ly hi g -b ike uphills, Simone float ed hi s KX125 . to both th e day's overa ll wins, and th e o n ly 200cc class bik e in th e top 25. It was his best ride ever in th e SoCaI Fam il y Enduro Series; hi s 200 AA score was a 1.86 at th e Bob cat. Wh ile Simon e rode to th e overa ll win, the family loop o ne was being head ed by Bill Kuykendall. Kuykendall ended up win ning th e famil y show as a beginner o n hi s H onda at six points dro p ped , wh ile J am i Salem wo n th e Wo men B class with an II poi nt loss. . Loop two go t serious quickl y. Starting fro m Parachute Hill, riders dropped out of the start ch ute into a 36 mph special test section . After the dive, the trai l snaked up a tight, steep, little-room-to-pass trail flanking th e rugged Ran d Moun tains. Bill Fulmer, J r, who took th e AA Four- Strok e wi n and finished second overall, 27 seconds behind Simone, said, "The course was done well. The mark ings were good if you stayed alert. If yo u started sleepi ng and look in g around though, you could mi ss th e trail. There were lots of spec ial tests , and yo u were ac tua lly riding good in the takeups instead of just doggin' it." Lowell Spiva said, " I got here abo u t 8:20 and di scovered th e start was at seven a.m . They gave me minute 85, which meant I onl y had four minutes to ge t ready. I took th e last minute th ey had wh ich was 95. Then I discovered my odo was dead. Fortunately, George Nazaroff did a good job of timekeeping for me. The race speeds could have been a little faster in some sectio ns, and there are an awfu l lo t of whoops." Spiva finished third overa ll. Jason In gersoll said, "My ado was .2 off all day, and I burned th e check righ t a fte r the wa terfa ll uphill section. It was a mess, there were at least 20 peop le stuck th ere." In gersoll salvaged n inth overa ll, at 4. 14I. G ranada Yamaha 's Mike Smith, 28, who grabbed fourth overall, sai d, " T he co urse was ma rked really well, but you had to be a little more careful because of the d ust. I went a little slow." Smith wo n the Open A class with 1.139. Randy Pretzer settled for th e 250cc AA win with a 2.105. In his first CRC enduro ever, J im Peter stormed to th e 250cc B wi n and six th overall at 2. 167. Nex t was Tim Ne thing, who took second 250cc B; 12th overa ll at 4.228. Sco tt Crawford grabbed seco nd 250cc AA a nd eighth overa ll at 3.230. Craw ford said , "The cho p py course on th e top of th e hills ate me up , or I'd have don e a second. Manzoni scores at Bay'ands MX By Mike Vancil FR EMO NT, CA, J U NE 24 Racing vetera n Bruce Manzoni, the man who has more laps a t Baylan ds than an y o ther racer, used all h is experience to cap ture first overall in the O pen Pro class at the regular Wedn esday n ight CMC-san ctioned races. Manzon i used co nsis tent finishes to earn th e o verall via a 2-1 score. In th e first mo to Manzoni lost the lead o n the fifth lap to a persistent Clayton Blood . Blood 's pressure o n Manzoni finall y paid off with a pass that came as th e two racers exited the rocke r section and jockeyed for pos ition o n a to ug h left-hand tum. In mo to two th e ro les were reversed, as Blood go t th e ho lesho t and Manz on i began to work o n him . A spill by Kawasak i-moun ted Blood put him in last, bu t he was up and mo tori ng har d to try and catch the pack. Blood wo rked by th e two ot her riders in the class and began to wor k on an obviously tiring Manzoni. Blood ran ou t of time and space whe n Manzoni picked up the pace and grabbed the checkers first. Gl en n H arri son was ab le to repass Blood for second just befo re th e. checkers came ou t. The o ther star of th e eveni ng was Eric Pu celik who won th ree out of th e four motos he entered in the 125 and 250 Intermediate classes. The on ly mot a Pu celik di dn 't win was the first 250cc Intermediate cla ss ba sh in which he cou ld not seem to find a way aro und Sergio Fernandez. In th e seco nd 250cc Intermedi ate rnoto Pucelik go t the hol eshot, like he did in both 125cc clas s even ts, and never look ed back. This tim e it was Fernandez who cou ld not find a way arou nd.
