Countless o ther tr uc k loads were in dividua lly loaded a nd dumped. It was a good feel in g to see everyone ge t so involved. . It 's u nbelievable how much Ju nk is h idden beh ind th a t bea utifu l desert sunset. I am sure I' m not a lo ne in admitting that I have th rown m y share o f beer cans a nd bottles into th e fire. Un fort u nately th ey don ' t burn , th ey don 't di sa p pear, they jus t contin ue to accu m ula te. Now , af ter clea ning o ut half a dozen fire pits, the o nly th in g yo u will ever see me drop into the fire is wood . I feel I hav e learned a lo t this weekend, as I am su re ot hers did too. It 's time th a t we a ll wa ke up to what must be done if we expect to keep the freedo m to ride and race in th e desert. In addi tion to writi ng let ters to concerned parties, we m ust physically act . If tha t means pi cking up trash , then that's what we m ust do. The next time you leave the desert , I challenge you to grab a trash bag and walk around the cam p for just 15 minutes. I bet you can fill tha t bag up with trash. It ~kes .so li tt le effort and I guarantee It WIll make a difference. We have the power to make needed changes in o ur desert , b u t we are desperately running out of ti me. Dirt track f an Pl ease encourage p romot ers to list th eir half m ile a nd sho rt track races wi th you. I ca n't find a ny d irt track racing si nce I m oved to Kansas. There used to be many races here, includ ing fair races . Please help me out. The weekend of June 21 at Camp Rock Road in Lucern e Valley, these two clubs sponsored a clean -u p / poker ru n weeke nd with the support of Jack Froe lich Troph ies, P ro Cycle , Ka l-Ga rd , American H ?n~a , Desert Racing Supply. AMA DIstrict 37 a nd the BLM, a gro up of 40 en th usiastic desert users worked in the scorc hing heat pi cking up bag a fter bag of tra sh. With th e help of the BLM ra ngers, four dump truck loads were hauled o u t of the desert. In addition to that, the efforts of one man by the name of Shawn Smeltzer I would li ke to ca ll your attentio n to severa l typograph ical errors in your coverage of the Loudon Su persport ra ce in th e Jul y I i ssue. Throug ho u t the entire report, Ch ris Martone's na me is in correctl y spe lled (it starts with an M, not a n N). In addition , the descrip tion of the second heat race mentions a rider named Do ug las Torsten. I thi n k tha t th e author is, in fact, referri ng to Doug Tosten. These guys work awfully hard and rely on publ ications such as yours for what litt le recognition that they get. Now we're talking about a n area bigger than half the land mass in half or' (~ur states - Ohio to New York, Michigan to North Carolina. And there ar e some of wh o you still j ump out o n your o ld clapped-out dirt bike on holida y weekends. It 's yo u guy s and gals that GIn tak e th at moment and zip off a bit ch lett er to yo ur sen ator. You don't hav e to say much . just o bjec t to S7. You see. if you don ' t yo u r friends and neighbors ma y j ust TP yo ur house or th e tree in yo ur front yard.
