Six days in Italy: The 61st ISDE Finall y, th ere's a video on the mark et that cap tures th e tru e sp iri t of . th e Intern ati onal Six-Da ys . En d uro (ISDE). It's a well-prod uced recording of th e 61st ISDE , held in San Pelligrino, Ital y, last September. Unl ike some of the ISDE videos we've seen, this American-made tape covers the Ita lian Six-Days in depth. It is aimed toward th e viewer who isn 't that familiar with th e prestigious end uro event, but is produced well eno ugh to keep the six-days know-it-all happil y en tertained as well. The video begins with a brief exp la na t io n a bo u t th e end u ro , including everyth ing th at is in volv ed in fielding a U. S. team at th e event. The rest of th e video cap tures th e progress of the race with a da y-byday comme ntary, co nce n tra ting on the h igh and lo w poin ts of the America n team. The tape even covers the controversia l seco nd day, whe n the Ital ian Clerk of the Course threw out one of th e special test sections in order to maintain h is country's point lead. Not m uch is left out of the video . The on ly thi ng that was lacki ng were rider interviews - there were n one. In tervi ews would' ve mad e the tape even more interesting than it already is. The nearl y hour-long pr esentation features first-class photography, most of i t beautifull y cap turin g American riders in th e special test sections. All of th e U.S. Trophy Team riders ar e pictured in th e film , as well as most of the U.S. Jr. World and club team rid ers. The video also focuses on so me of the top European riders in action, including three-time ISDE individual winner Giles La lay of France. The commentary is o kay but often lacks enthusiasm . However, it doesn 't lack information, wh ich we found to be very accurate. The final segment of the tape was filmed at the motocross speci a l test where th e end uro riders raced sideby-side on a long, hilly mo tocross . track high in th e Alps. For some reason, though , th e qual it y of th e film cha nges at th is point It fails to offer as crisp a p icture or color as vivid as in th e earlier segmen ts of the video . Fin ally, all th e U.S. riders ar e honored at th e end of th e tape wh en their finishing orders ar e listed by gold, silv er and bronze medal s. The Italian ISDE video is excellent and extremely entertaining for any off-road motorcycle enth us iast. The tape is not cheap, however , but th e $50 price goes to a good ca use - th e ISDE Support Fund. If yo u never get a cha nce to attend th e ISDE, having the video in yo ur library is the next best way of seeing the competition yourself. And buying th e tape allows you to do your part in helping support the U.S. ISDE team that will compe te in Pol a nd this September.
