Roberts wins Sandy Sports RR Lazor, Lewis top Action Park East Speedway By Jim Billingsley . By Todd Kroh SALT LAKE CITY, UT, JUNE 14 The Sandy Sports Park was host to th e th ird round of the USBA Yamaha YSRSO T rack Challenge Motorcycle Road Race Ser ies. Although the down-sized motorcycles were a perfect match for the tight I I-turn race track, 1000 temperatures took th eir toll on th e racers. The Production E class men 's di vision started off with series leader Brock Rober ts of Vesco's Racing grabbing an early lead. Jim Billingsley, sponsored by Wasatch Ale/Cycle Inn and TK·7; was in a clos e second until a third lap crash dropped him back to seventh . Chad Bangerter of Craig's Yamaha, quickly mov ed into second pl ace with Monte Rock in th ird on a colorful Quality Motorcycle Parts-sponsored Eddie Lawson replica. That's th e way the first heat fini shed, as no on e in the l 3-bike field co uld catch Roberts. In th e second heat , Roberts again took the win. Billingsley took second and T erry McG innis of Plaza Cycle took third. The overall finish ing order, based o n co mbined finishes from both heats saw Roberts th e winner with Billingsley in second and Rock in third. The Women 's division turned out to be a very exciting dicing match betw een Kath y and Vicky Wayment, and Danielle Mabely. Mabely ended up winning the overall by taking a seco nd pl ace in th e first heat, but coming back and winning the second heal. First heat winner Vicky Wayment took seco nd overall and Kathy Wayment cap tured th ird. . The 200 pound cla ss was handily won by Clay Perry who took wins in both heats. Perry didn't seem bother ed by th e heat and ra ced smoothly a nd consistently. Robert Connolly, in his first race on his brand new YSRSO, reco vered from a first heat acci dent and took second pl ace overall. Mark Dennon, getting faster every race, took third overall on a quality motorcycle partssponsored YSR50. GREENE, NY, JUNE 13 George Lazor and J ohn Lewis are making thi s a regular rou tine. Lazor won hi s second straigh t Scra tch main event a nd Lewis to o k hi s third co nsecu tive H and icap fea ture at Action Park East Speedway. Lew is was no t as do m ina nt this wee k in handicap action as th e previo us, but still got th e job don e. T he Canadi ans were here in full for ce th is week and Lewis had to battl e J ohn Dm ytrow for top honors in hi s handicap heal. Lewis barely tra nsferred to th e main from h is semi-final as he followed ano ther Cana dian Len Dill on a nd Ohio 's John Ra cin into th e fin al. Mark Edwards won the o ther sem i-final followed by Bruce Nelson a nd T om Bur ge wh o had to push his bik e across th e line for the fina l transfer spot. After a restart of th e main, caused by Burge's maj or wipeout in turn o ne o f th e origin al g r een fla g , Edwards led th e riders aro und the first lap. By th en , Lewi s had already mad e h is move up to th e number two spo t. But right o n hi s rear wh eel were Dill on a nd Nelson. Edwards con tinued to hold th e lead position unt il Lewis flew past h im on lap two and never looked back. Behind Lewis, Dill on and Nelson were wa ging war over second pl ace. T he runner-up spo t was awa rded to Dill on after a photo finish. Burge returned for th e res tart to finis h fourt h , J ohn Racin took fifth and Edwar ds, who led two laps, was last. In Scratch raci ng, La zor was off and runnin g again win n ing his hea t race, but in the sem is he met up wi th Nelson. Nelson is recoverin g from an off. seaso n ice raci ng injury, bu t has been very competitive th e last two weeks. Nelson lost his heat race to Lew is, but .returned to do wn Lazor in th e semi-fina l. In th e second semi, Dillon led Lewis around th e o val during lap one until Lewis ' bik e quit. Then Edwards took th e transfer spo t with Damien Cornwell in tow hoping so meth ing would happen so th at he could enter hi s first Scratch main of his career. Lazon 's sem i- fi na l loss didn 't affect hi s mind as he pushed his Oury GriplTsubaki/JT Racing/Robinson Cycle-backed Jawa to th e lead in th e main event over Edwards. Nelson dropped Edwards to third on lap two and began th e assault on La zor. Lazor would hav e nothing of it as he rode to the win. Dillon, Results PRODUCTION E (BOX STOCK 5Occ) MEN: 1.
