H-D Motor Co.lBeJl /Coors / Tsubaki-backed Parker led the main event wire-to-wire, but faced heavy competition from Carr and Chandler near the mid point of the race. Parker eventually pulled away to a comfortable margin at th e finish, leaving Carr and Chandler to shoot it out for second. "I thought I was out there a little farther than thai, " said Parker. "Then Chris cam e up behind me and I had to pick up the pace. Sometimes when you're out front you 're worse off than when you're running second. Because in second you know that you've goua go faster. When you 're in first you don't always know how fast to go, " Parker's win proved to be a special one since it gave long-time factory Harley-Davidson tuner Bill Werner his 50th Grand National win. Parker a lso netted himself $3945 of the $29,500 purse, plus he earned an addi tional $400 for leading all 20 lap s of the National. The Lima race wasn't part of th e nine dirt track events on this year's Camel Pro Series schedule, but it was part of the AMA Grand National Dirt Track Series. Last year's Grand National Champion, Bubba Shobert was absent from the race since he was off chasing Camel Pro points 'at th e Road America road race in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. Parker's win stretched his' point lead in the battle for the 1987 Grand National Championship. H e now leads Chandler 103-94. Carr moved into third in the standings by virtue of his second place finish and Shobert's no-show. Carr holds a slim 80-78 edge over Shobert. Two-time National Champion Ricky Graha m is fifth in the standings with ' 73 points. Time Trials Sammy Sweet (6 0) scored the win in the second heat, while Ricky Graham (3) edged out Carr (2 0 ) for second. Parker's w in gave his tuner Bill Werner his 50th National win . Second fastest time went to Carr, pi lo ting his H -D M o tor Co .lLawwiJl /Shoei / RS Taich i. Hap ]ones/Hobie-sponsored XR 75C to a 25.778 time.
