lead was short-lived. Roaring down the front straight for the final time, Graves . pulled out of the draft and up alongside Rawson. Side-by-side they streaked across the fin ish line , - the race was declared a tie. King won the stampede for third, while Garza nailed down fourth, Runyan fifth and Brinda six th. Some of these riders put in a full day 's racing and had top finishes in other classes as well. Mark King won the 450cc Stock Production twostroke class and finished second in the 450cc Modified Two-Stroke race. Garza brought home second place trophies in both the 600cc Modified Production and Fomula Two events, . plus a fifth in the 600cc Super Street face-off. Todd Rawson finished on e place down from Garza in the Formula Two scrimmage and DNF in the 600cc Modified Production race when his Honda lost its drive chain in turn two on the firstlap. The 600cc Modified Production race was red -flagged just seconds after the green flag fell. O ne rider fell a t the start and Rawso n lost his chain and ran off the irack.· The officials felt that the race should come to a halt and be restarted. Underway for the second time, Ear l Roloff's Kawasaki led Garza and Chuck Graves at the end of lap one. From that point on, Roloff increased his lead turning 1:34s and was never challenged for the duration of the race. In the early stages, second through fifth were evenly spaced at about two seconds apart, but there was good racing for sixth between Jim Dickerson, Ru nyan , Al Smith and Craig Beecher. At the halfway mark the pack had spread out, but Graves was beginning to close on Garza. Graves was making time through turns eight and nine with Garza holding his own on the rest of the circuit. By the white .flag la p , they were side-by-side all the way around the 2.5-mile course. R o lo ff won with a six-second cushion and is $500 richer thanks to Kawasaki. Garza took second by a wheel. The 250cc Ni nja pilots p u t on some exce llent racing in the four I classes they competed in. Richard Moore took ho me the lion's share of the Kawasaki gree n. Two firsts and two seconds netted him $1600. Don Caner won the 305cc Modified Production class. P h il Smith put his Honda Ascot in front of -the little Ninjas in 450cc Four-Stroke Super Street action.
