Rouge drags By Fast Graphic Service BATON ROUGE,LA, MAY 31 In describing the Pro Stock final at the NHRA Citgo/K-Mart Cajun Nationals, one could use the phrase "old versus new." That is, "old" as in winner Rick Stetson's tried. and true '81 Suzuki and "new" as in runner-up Dave Schulu's . k d I'ck '87 Ka . u I a -lt1C an s 1 wasaki. u: Whatever the age of the bikes, both riders earned the final-round berths with some of the lowest ET's and hardest riding of eliminations, which was filled with a plethora of new bikes and an equally large number of very good numbers. The only incident to mar the otherwise fine day of racing was the crash of Terry Vance in the second round. Vance had crossed the finish line at a speed of over 162 mph when he got out of shape and was pitched off his '87 Suzuki (Vance estimated that he was traveling about 120 mph). He was taken to a .local hospital, but was released an hour later after no serious injuries were detected. Vance was seen later in the day in his pit area, walking very gingerly due to a large bruise on his hip. The bike sustained surrrisingly little damage and both wil be back in competition at a bike race before the end of the month. The win for Stetson began at a place that one doesn't expect a National event victor to begin, specifically, the No. 16 qualifying position.
