Shawn FREMONT, CA, MAY 7 CowboyJohn Cook tamed all comers at the second round of Class A Speedway racing under the lights of Baylands Raceway Park, doubling the Scratch and Handicap main event wins. Handicap racing saw Bobby Hicks' start off where he finished at the opener, winning the first heat over Steve "Volcano Kid" Martin and Kid Curry while Cook held off Bart Bast and Mike Solis. Rocky Robinson continued to better himself, winning the third heat over Joe LeDuc and Dave Faria.Eddie Ingels was as steady as ever, winning the final heat over Mike Parsons and Ken Theibaud. Cook topped Curry in the first semi while Robinson kept the winning line over Parsons and Ingels. Mike Solis led the first two laps and appeared to have a handle on the right line to keep Cook in tow. But one little wide line off the number four corner for the white flag was all the Cowboy needed to style to the £beCkers. Parsons also found his way around for second with Solis third over Curry, Robinson and no Ingels, who was out with a dead engine. Bast easily handled the first Scratch heat over Greg Martz while Ingels and Faria battled closely for the second heal. Cook and Robinson were a show in the third. Martin definitely likes a roaring crowd and they got him whipped up enough to win the fourth heat over Hicks. Bast, Robinson and Ingels were side-by-side for the first two laps of their semi with Ingels taking the win over Bast. Robinson ended up with a flat tire. Cook took a lap to gtt by Martz and Martin for the other ra~. . With Ingels out for the Scratch main, Martz drew for the first slot and got number two while Cook drew second. Bast didn't bother and lined up on the pole for the Bast Bros. Welding/Sierra Prods special and, despite a double clutch .start, got the start and the line on Cook and Martz. Cook cut close 'and drove the inside and a lap later, had the lead and the wildly applauded win. Brian Pecore started out his Division Two season on the right foot, winning off the zero in front of a rapidly approaching Van~ Felicio and Canadtan Shawn Venables. Division Three was its wild,, mad . Venable; 4. Derek Don'estyn; 5. Steve Orlandi. 0-3: 1. Scott Yarbrough; 2. Kerry Puccio; 3. Joe Leonard Jr.; 4. John Payton; 5. Matt Vulk. '. COLUMBUS, OH, APR. 25-26 Hundreds of motorcycle deal.erships have come and gone in the past 75 years, but when one motorcycle dealership keeps its doors open for that period of time, it's cause for a celebration. But rather than just having a few friends over for a small party, the A.D. Farrow Company of Columbus, Ohio, rented out a local civic center and invited all motorcyclists to celebrate their anniversary with them. That celebration came together in the form of The Heritage of American Motorcycling Expo, which featured motorcycles ranging from a 1913 Indian board-track racer to the 1986 Baja-finishing Harley Comet. Nearly 80 machines were featured in the show. With such a display of motorcycles, there were some tough choices to be made for the people's choi~ trophy for the best motorcycle in the show. The voting was so close that Toledo, Ohio's Steve Magnatta and his immaculately restored 1939. Harley-Davidson UL took first pla~ by just one vote. But there was more at the Expo than just looking at vintage motorcycles to. keep showgoers occupied. Talbott-Van Barriger Productions presented exciting previews of the Cycle News-sponsored documentary, Glory Days: A History of Early American Motorcycling. Between showings of these videos, emcee John Van Barriger interviewed celebrated motorcyclists such as Jim Davis, who raced for both Harley-Davidson and Indian between the years 1916 to 1937, and a slew of special guests. Also taking turns at the microphone were Harley-Davidson's vicepresident of styling, Willie G. Davidson; 1975 AMA Camel Pro Series Champion Gary Scott; road ra~r Gene Church; Harley Comet builders David Farrow (no relation) and Jim Jackson; and Jackie McCue, the new Ms. Harley-Davidson. On Sunday morning the dealership also held a road ride to benefit ... , ,. 1 l • h J j. POWER with the PATENTED 1987's ARE HERE!
