Mertens, where in hell are you?" Tim
Mertens looked toward the "Findlay
Flyer" with a confused stare, and
when Morehead saw the Belleville
Honda
rider,
he
screamed,
"Mertens!" ran to him and crushed
the surprised Illinois rider with a big
bear hug. What was the reason for
Morehead's exuberant behavior? It
was only the Ohio Expert's way of
saying congratulations to the first
privateer rider ever to win the Camel
Pro Challenge.

Go for it, Fred!
Having worked with Fred Merkel
in the past, I can only say that Fred
has truly earned his 1# I status. I think
it was a good omen that Honda did
not re·sign Merkel. He conquered the
U.S., now it's time to show Europe
that we are not running out of grein
talent. Go for it, Fred!
