SOUTH EDMESTON, N'i, MAY 3 Scott Eggleton blasted to the lead in the first moto of the Senior Mini Expert class at Thunder Ridge MX, with Bret Leonard and Andy Brooks giving chase. As -lap one became history, Leonard held the number one spot while Eggleton was trying to figure out how he ended up m the rear of the pack. It didn't take Eggleton long to get his fire back. On lap three he moved into third behind Brooks while Leonard gathered a little breathing room up front. Within the next lap Eggleton was pressuring Brooks hard and on the next lap he made his move for second. Leonard lost ground to Eggleton on the last lap, but held on for the win. Brooks settled for third and served notice he'd be back in moto two. Eggleton took control early in the second heat, with Leonard following over the rolling track. Brooks had a . poor start but quickly started to power toward the leaders. Eggleton pulled out a slight lead and Brooks moved into third. On lap three Eggleton went down in a sweeping turn giving the lead to Leonard but he was up and off in a flash. For the next two laps Eggleton tried to get by Leonard, but without any luck. On the last lap, Eggleton made a last-ditch effort and passed for the lead. Leonard hung in there and as the two approached the finish line he pinned the throttle, but Eggleton was ready and held off Leonard to the finish line. Brooks dropped back to fourth but took third overall for the day. Expert action in the 125cc class saw Steve Nessel grab the lead in moto one and run while Jim McKeon diced with Terry Kuhn [or second. Sandell smokes GreeleySX By Larry Johnson GREELEY, CO, MAY 9 Kip Sandell gave his challengers a lesson on how to ride whoops at the. season's first supercross. His talents earned him both the 250cc and Open Pro class victories. While the others would try their best to ride through the whoops, Sandell would jump in as far as possible, then skip across the top of the rest. Sandell gave the large crowd an indication of what to expect in his 250cc qualifier. After taking the holeshot, he went down and ended up in last, but Sandell roared back to third at the checkers. In the main, Sandell gated fourth behind Stacey Cook, Tim BuchJi and Dave Newell. In his first trip through the whoops, Sandell shot to second, then took the lead from Coo.k the next time through. CooK stayed close for two laps, then Sandell pulled away. Meanwhile, Cook and Coref Cope got into a battle for second. On lap six Cook came out of the whoops, blasted off the high berm that followed and squared off for the pyramid jump. Cope tried to cut underneath and caught Cook's swingarm. Both riders went .down, Cope remounted in third behind Buchli, and Cook got up slowly with an injured leg. Cope was able to get around BuchJi for second, while Cool< limped home 21st. Newell led round one of the Open Pros from start-to-finish. Sandell, after a bad start, was able to close in on Ne.welJ late in the race after lapped riders slowed Newell. Newell gated ahead of Sandell in moto two, and Sandell tried three .times to scoot past in the whoops, but Newell shut him off each time in the following turn. Newell got out of shape in the last turn on the nextto-Iasllap, and Sandell went around the outside arrd took the lead for good. Before Cook was hurt in the 250cc main, ·he won the 125cc Pro main, but it took eight laps before Cook could find a way around Jimmy Anderson for the win. In the 80cc Experts, Scott Fulcher won both motos. Fulcher overtook Andy Atkins early in moto one and cruised in for the win. The twosome tangled in round two, with Fulcher prevailing and Atkins being knocked to last place, unable to recover. Results 60 NOV: 1. Lane Swink (Kaw); 2. Chrris Williams
