Komerdaims Speeds"ille Trial By George Brinkwart SPEEDSVILLE, NY, MAY 17 Premier Mike Komer took his Montesa through the many off-camber, tight turns at Speedsville, dropping a total of 22 points for the day, to take the top honors of the trial. Fiftyfive riders came out to Speedsville, to try their hand at an Ithaca Dirt Riders' Trial. High temperatures and humidity brought out the bugs which some riders reported inhaling while riding through the damp sections. Although the sections were not extremely difficult, they did require the riders' undivided attention. The sections were long enough to give those who dropped their guard a quick point or two. Dave Reed again took first place honors in the Advanced class, while the Intermediate class was won by Mark Pettit. Good riding on some of the Expert lines helped Pettit secure his first place. Regan Faught took his Beta to a victory in the Novice class with an incredible score of one. When asked how he managed such a low score Regan said, "I just had 10 concentrate on keeping my feet on the pegs." The section giving Regan his single point was number 11. There, riders had to go up a creek full of slippery and loose stones and then over some exposed roots. The Senior B class was won by PRE: 1. Mike Komer (Mon). EX: 1. Greg Bolt (Hon~ 2. Wood, Taylor dash at Georgia SX By Gary Crider WRENS, GA, MAY 8 The grand opening of the Georgia ..5J1percross of Champions at Wrens talrgrounds was highlighted by a thrilling I 25cc Pro main event which saw Gerald Wood and Robbie Taylor swap positions five times during the la-lap race. Despite pain from a broken ankle suffered two weekS ago, Wood was first at the checkered over Taylor. The Georgia Cycle Supplysponsored night event also saw a strong performance by Richie Horton who piloted his 60cc Kawasaki to wins in the 65 and 80cc 7-11 Mini divisions. The 125cc Pro main saw Robby Neeley grab the holeshot with Wood in close pursuit. By the end of the first lap, Taylor had passed Tommy Martin and Seth Tharin to join Neeley and Wood in a three-way debate for the lead. On lap three Wood stalled his bike in a rut and surrendered second spot to Taylor. Wood soon closed on Taylor and reclaimed second after a one-lap dice. On the next lap, however, Wood bobbled in the same rut and again let Taylor go by. . Neeley had built up a five-second lead but a couple of mistakes allowed the Taylor/Wood duo to close and pass. Wood lOok the lead from Taylor only to slide out in the big sweeper a few seconds later. On the next lap Taylor snagged a course marker and gave the lead to Wood. Taylor kept the pressure on Wood until Tommy Martin moved up and kept Taylor busy in a battle for second spot. Wood claimed the victory with a threesecond lead over Taylor and Martin. The 25OcciOpen Pro event again featured Wood, Taylor and Neeley in a lead-swapping brawl. Neeley regained his holeshot advantage early in the race while Taylor and Wood occupied themselves in a backand-forth war over second. Wood later crashed and Taylor moved up to challenge Neeley's lead During the final three laps Taylor made spectacular efforts to pass Neeley over the double-jump, but Neeley held each time and took the win over Taylor. Martin was third over Wood. Wimam Mutimer was sidelined after a first-turn tangle at the start of his qualifying heat left him with a broken leg. In the l25cc B main, Trey Phillips showed the way at the ~tart only to let Brad Jimison get past 1D tum two. Mter two laps of wheelto-wheel action Phillips regained the lead. Jimison stayed latched to Phillips' rear fender until a spill over the tabletop dropped him to a distant third behind Bryan Rice. Rice DNF, however, when his Honda's transmission locked on the last I~p. Phillips won by a good margin while Jimison took second over Tennessee's Michael Fremion. Resultl 66 MINI: 1.
