MORRIS, PA ., MAY 24 T eam Honda's Mi cky Dymond served notice to the 125cc ranks today that he is back in ch amp ion ship form after his early season heal th p roblems. Dymond turned 'in a perfect 1-1 score at H igh Poin t Raceway to take over the 125cc I point lead. Nat ional Championship "Everyt h ing went real smoo th," Dymond said. " I rode m y o wn race . I didn ' t have to ride so hard tha t I wasout o f con tro l." Kaw asaki 's Ron Lechien locked up th e victory in th e 250cc division with a 2-1 score, fini shing a hea d of teammate a nd fir st moto winner J eff Ward. - Dvrnon d didn 't to tall y dom in at e the l 25cc clas s. but he ca me close. In the seco nd mo to Lech ien came fro m behind to overtake T eam Suzu ki 's Joh n ny O 'M ara for th e ' m o to wi n and th e overa ll victory. R ick J ohnson , the 250cc class point lead er , fin ished a di stant th ird in th e first m oto, th en had to slice th rough th e pack ' a fter a fir st-turn cras h to cla im fourth in ' m ot a two. The T eam Honda rider 's score wa s good eno u gh to earn him fourth overa ll and to maintain h is point lead. A large, enth usiastic crowd filled th e hi llsides and in field of the High Point Ra cewa y course and they ba sked in warm , sunny'wea ther. 250cc Yamaha rider Jeff Stanton had the quickest reflexes in the fir st moto a s he led the field around th e fast , sweeping first turn. Stanton, Ward and Lechien held the top three spots and had a small cushion on Johnsor. as they entered th e back secti on of th e tra ck. When the leaders came back onto th e front stra igh t, Ward had made h is way by Stanton, with Lech ien a very clo se third. Stanton a nd Lechien battled until a third of th e way into lap two when th e Kawasaki pilot stu ffed hi s way past Stanton and set out after Ward. Lechien reeled in Ward bv the end of the seco nd lap an d th e 'd uo ran side-by-side down th e front straigh t. J ohnson h ad managed to find a way by Stanton o n lap two also, bu t had so me grou n d to mak e up on the front ru n ners. By lap five Ward ha d built a threeseco nd cus h io n on Lechien , who was si x seco nds in front of J ohnson. Stan to n a nd O 'M a ra ro u nded out the top five, but were so me di stance behind J ohnson. Ward 's lea d re mai ne d s tea d y th rough th e n ext four laps, but Lech ien ca me storm ing back on lap 10 a nd closed to with in two bike ' lengths o f Ward. The Kawasak i duo ran 'n eck -a n d -n eck through th e jumps on th e front straight and Le ch ien just managed to edge in front of Ward as th ey crested th e table top jump. Lechien and Ward diced throughout th e next two laps, with Ward g lued to Lechieri' s rear fender. Ward found his wa y around Lechien in the lower sectio n o f th e tra ck and took back the lead for good. Ward went on to build up a 10sec o n d m argin o n L echien and cr ui sed in for th e victory. Lechien fin ished a safe seco n d over 20 secon ds a head o f J ohnson, wh ile O 'Mara ja m m ed p ast Sta nton to claim th e fourt h pl ace spot. O 'M ar a jett ed into th e lead at th e start of m ot o two with Yamahamounted Doug Dubach a nd Stanton in h ot pu rsuit. J ohnson went down in turn one an d rem ounted at th e rear of th e field. At th e en d o f lap o ne O 'Mara, Stanton, Dubach , Lechien and Tom Carson filled out th e top five spots, wi th O'Mara h olding a slim lead. Ward was ba ck in th e seventh place slo t. Lechien snaked his way around Stanton on la p two and started his qu est to re el in O 'Mara. Ward displaced Jeff H icks, Carson and Dubach in one la p and was up to fourth place, but was abou t th ree seconds behind Stanton. O 'Mara wa s able to put so me distance on Lechien during lap three and had a six-second lead as they came through the last two turns on the course. Ward was on the charge
