Dorsey, Texter top Tra!'-Way ST By Len Breech HAN O VER , PA, MAY 9 Afte trying twice in Apri l to la u nch a Saturday night short track p rogram with som ewhat soggy results, TrailWa y Speedway finall y selected a cl ear, cool even i ng a nd H a rol d Dorsey and Ra ndy T exter were read y - eac h took a pair of wins. Dorsey claimed th e 200 and 250cc Amateur events for the seco nd 'straigh t.week, wh ile T exter topped the 250cc a nd 750cc Expert classes. Texte r 's attempt to win three classes in an eveni ng was foil ed by Tommy Cerciello in the 600cc Expert final. T exter led all three starts of th e 250cc Expert fin al, wi th Dal e Gin gric h, Cerciello, and Pa u l Crumling tra il in g h i m on th e start th at cou nted. After two laps, Cerciello and Crum ling di spl aced G in gri ch in the battle for second, with Cercie llo securi ng the spo t o n lap four. Abo u t the same ti me, Georgie Pri ce moved into fo urth a nd took third a few la ps later wh en Crumling dr ifted high. Cerc iello kept the . pressure on, but Texter held a 10-yard margi n at th e end. Texter had an easy time in th e 750cc clas s, beating another National numb er , St eve . Bu rkh ol der by a straigh t. Burkh older had ta ken second from Cerci ello on th e third lap , whi le Cerciello got into a battle for third with 'Bria n H all and Max George un til Hall slid out two laps from the end. T ext er had gra bbed the lead at th e star t o f the 600cc Expert fin al from Cer ci ello , Gin grich and Mic key Ru sden , but Cerciell a m o tored by at the end of th e first lap on hi s wa y to a 20-yard cushion. Robbie Maj eski too k fourth spo t a bo u t halfwa y th rough the race a nd closed in on Gingrich 's thi rd spot. Maj esk i dove under him for third as th ey headed int o th e third turn on th e fina l lap. Dorsey ga ted third, behind Paul Southard a nd J erem y Him m elwright , in the 200cc Am a teur fin al. After two laps, Dorsey had tak en secon d a nd sta rted to pressure Southard, taking first a t the end of the sixth la p. In the 250cc Amateu r cla ss, Dave Smith led Dorsey, Todd H urst and Wayn e Fra n kli n . On th e third lap , Dorsey gra bbed th e lead co m ing off the second turn , and p ulled away to a straigh taway margin a t th e end. Frankl in got by Hurst for th ird , setti ng th e top fo ur. . Roy Collins claime d hi s th ird stra ig h t 500cc Ama teur fin al , tak ing the lead fro m J ohnny Bowers o n th e second lap. Wh ile Co lli ns was p u lling awa y, Bowers' teammate, Dall as Baer , was closing in on him . At th e flag, Bowers and Baer crossed the line together, with Baer getting th e nod .
