It was o n thi s trai l wh ere we had
o ur first problem with one of the
bikes. The Yam aha, wh ich I happened to be riding, began coughi ng
and running rough - th en it died.
It had plenty of gas in it, so I didn 't
know wh at th e problem was . Kinney
finall y came up to me and told me
that his KLR had run out of gas and
he had to switch to reserve. T hat was
reall y bad , 'ca use we were a long way
from a ny gas stat ion.
I tr ied kicki ng o ver th e Yamaha
a nd it fired up on th e first a tte m p t.
I was a littl e bewildered abo ut th e
Yamah a quittin g, but I was more
th an happy j ust to ha ve it running
aga in.
We co nt in ued down this winding
trail , al ongside thi s hill, and Kinney
, was leading the wa y. H e was riding
fast and I was working hard to keep
up with him. The XT wa s a blast.
It was fun to flick around th e sharp
turns, but o ne mistak e, and th e XT
and I would've ended up a t th e
bottom of a cliff. Riding th at trail
wa s a deli cat e battle of throttle and
brake all th e wa y to th e bottom of
th e hill.
