·8 ruckbaues takes Sand Hill HS ALVA SANCTIONED By Roger Dowden WALDEN, co, APR. 26 The first race of the new Rocky Mountain Hare Scrambles Serie s saw John Bruckbaues pilot his fourstroke Husky to th e overall victory. The Front Range Trailriders laid ou t a ' well-balanced course consisting of every thi ng from sand dunes to tight woods. The 137 riders I definately got their money's worth in three hours of racing on a rough seven -mile course that allowed no chance for rest. Bru ckbauer's lead was not unchal len ged as Dave Burke o n a 250cc H onda kept the big th um per in sigh t for most o f th e race. Kevin Davis o n a 250cc KT M worked hi s way up thro ugh th e pa ck to fin ish a stro ng thi rd overall. , B riders J ace Anderso n on a 350cc KTM an d Ric Rob eso n on an an cient 250cc H onda XR both overcame a five-mi nute delayed start to fin ish u p amo ngst the A riders. Geor ge Tubbs on a La ke City H onda CR 250 pulled th e hol esh o t on the grass covered uphill sta rt , H e worked hi s way th rough traffi c to hold th e overall lead for the first half of th e two hour race. - The 200cc class had Rich Wa lswort h lead ing the pack until hi s rea r wheel became entangled in a vine. J erem y Gar ber the n . passed Wals wo rt h a nd fo ught hi s way to the front, passin g Tubbs o nly to have chain p roblem s which forced him to drop ou t. Dewitt th en took th e lead in th e 200cc class and overtoo k Tubbs to win th e overa ll. Pat Flynn , after a poor start , rode consistent ly and captured th e 250cc class win.
