Nelson beat o u t T ony Flores and Rick Ryan for th e top spo t in the compe titive class. . . In th e first 125cc Pro mot o, Ryan a nd Flores ra n side-by-side into turn o ne, but as they entered turn two Ryan assumed th e lead and began to pull awa y. Flores tried hard 10 stay with Ryan , but Ryan held th e lead all th e way to the checkers. Flores ended up cra shing twi ce during th e rnoto and had to make a last-lap pass on Nelson to claim the second place slot. In the second rn oto Nelson took the early lead while Ryan was off th e pace. Nelson and Flores set a fast pace and went o n to tak e the top two spots at rnoto 's end. This was also th e first points race of th e Nebraska/Iowa Championship Series. Ninety-two riders fou gh t through th e dust to seek money and trophy awards. . Doug Nicholas was th e big winner of th e da y. capturing two wins th e 250cc A,. th e Open class and second in th e Over 25. Steve H ytrek was a ble to finis h in th e top posit ion in th e second mo to of th e O ver 25 class to beat Nicholas and also took a th ird pl ace in th e 250cc As.
