The T om m y Newman-prepared track was challenging for the pros as well as th e novice ride rs. P ro (125cc) actio n saw Yamaha's Wispem Smi th and H onda rider Cli ff Palmer battle th rough out the day, wi th th e first moto action ~oi ng in Palmer's favor but wit h Sm ith co ming back stron g to win th e second mot o and the overa ll. Pro action in th e 250cc class was th e most exci ting racing of th e day with Honda riders Palmer, Steve Bayles, and Dane Hillery co ntin uously swapping th e lead . The first moto saw Hillery hol esho t and hold th e lead for th e first lap. Bayles and Palmer quickl y mo ved past Hillery but th eir battle for first resulted with both riders connect in g bar s an d go ing down , handing th e lead and win to H ill ery with Palmer taki ng second and Bayles settling for third. The rest of th e 250cc mo tos on Saturda y were very simi lar to th e first m o to wi th Palmer ta king sto ck overall a nd Bayles taki ng Modi fied and 500cc Pro victories. On Sunday Ba yl es fou nd th e redesigned track to hi s liking.
