MAY 2 J immy Briggs and Phillip H ayes con tin ued the ir Mini class rivalry a t Riverside MX, and th is time it was Bri ggs eme rg ing on top, leading th e Mini J r. class from start to finish in both mote s. Despite winning each outing , Bri ggs was hounded by. H ayes the who le way, bu t Briggs finished just a few in ch es ah ead of Hayes. Not o n ly did Briggs win the Mini Jr. class, but he al so claimed th e Pee Wee class vic to ry a nd went home with an extra $50. Cooter McClure nail ed th e 250cc Amateu r victory fairly eas ily, while Eric Burr ell took h is H onda to a seco nd -place fin ish. Bu rr ell was hampered by a poor start. Cha d Leigh cap tured th e Senior Min i main victory after narrowly missing getting tangled up in a first turn pileup. Luckily for Leig h , he was In front of the pileup that involved Bo Shannon, Steve Burdette a nd Ronnie Yarbrough. Shannon a nd Burdette managed to make up a lot of time during th e race, but co u ldn ' t ca tch Leigh, or seco ndplace finisher Dav id Cantrell. Results "THE BEST IN THE END'" • After getting off to a slow start, Doug and his "SuperTrapp" powered Honda devastated the competition at the San Jose Mile by snatching the victory by inches.
