Whipple wails at Morrison HS Michelin By Merle Acord Harvey Whipple rode his Kawasaki KDX200 through 12, ~.2-mile laps of tight woods, off-camber hills, creek bottoms and an open field for the overall honors at the Bike Bam! Spectro Oil-sponsored Morrison hare scramble. Whipple finished one minute 15 seconds ahead of 250cc KTM rider Jeff Stevenson. "I got the holeshot," said Whipple, "and was pulling away a little after the first lap, but I was wearing myself out too fast so I cut back a little and rode steady. But at the end of ·the first hour I was getting too far behind so I picked up the pace and caught Stevenson (the leader) and I just kept that pace until the end. " "H you can," continued Whipple, "mention my sponsor the Cripple Alewue Lure Co. I know it's strange for a fishing company to pay the expenses of a motorcycle racer, but they do and I'm grateful." Jeff Stevenson, the second place overall and owner of Action Cycle Shop has a more conventional sponsor - himself. Stevenson took over the lead on the third lap and slowly began pulling away from the pack.
