The only one you'll ever need in 198T'fJ'~~ Szarek masters a sliek Summit Point RR Ask for PJl, the exact hi-peHormance blend of oils and lubricants that fa~tory race teams use. By Michael D. Green SUMMIT POINT, WV, APR. 11-12 In his second season of road racing and his first event as an Expert, Glenn Szarck mastered the changing track conditions at the WERA season opener at Summit Point, West . Virginia. "It is a slippery track, but I like it, Szarck said. "It reminds me of riding on the streets around my house in Bal timore. I really like sliding into turns - it tends to psych out the competition!'~ 1)le competition assumed that Szarck's aggressive riding style would end in a crash, but he proved them wrong and ended the weekend with four wins and a second place aboard his Maryland yamaha FZ750s. Szarck's only defeat came in his first race of the day, the B Superbike event. He was leading Jeff Atwell and Tony Rauseo as the pack entered the fast right hand kink of turn four on lap one. Trying a little too bard, Szarck ran wide into the dirt and relied on his motocross experience to stay upright. Atwell slipped by and used the superior horsepower of his GSXR Superbike to hold onto the lead to the checkered £lag. Rain was falling steadily andAtwell loaded his slick equipped machine into his van with a view to heading home. A controversial decision was made to postpone the Formula One event to the end of the day and Atwell and others decided to wait and see if the track would dry out. Meanwhile, the A Superbike event was run in heavy rain. Szarck brought out his production FZ750 and slid his way to an Unchallenged first place and was also an easy winner of the A and B Production events. As the track dried the stage was set for a showdown with Atwell in the Formula One event. The drama began in the pre-grid area as Atwell's tuner spotted an oil leak on Szarck's bike. " ... the officials suggested I use my stock bike," Szarck commented afterwards. "I didn't think I could win with that Cycle News every week!
