Faria was out of gate two for the main with Christian off the pole. Both riders had come into the main undefeated in the Scratch preliminaries. Faria got the gate over Christian, Steve Lucero and· Oxley. Oxley quickly got by Lucero and stayed in third for all four laps. At the end of lap three the white flag failed to come ouL At the end of lap four the checkered flag failed to come out. The riders continued to race around the track while the riders in the pits had a good laugh. The fans were confused but at the end of six laps the starter finally went for the white flag and, mercifully, the checkered waved at the end of lap seven. The fans had now realized that a mistake had been made and they gave a sarcastic cheer at the end of the event. The order of finish at both four laps and eight laps was Faria, Christian, Oxley and Lucero. Bernie Tusko (TEP/Pro Design/ Jet Set Tuning PPT) grabbed the honors in the Support class main for the first time in 1987 over Randall Dance. Results SCRATCH: 1. Mike Feria paw); 2. Bertilno blasts PelOn ST By Bill Holt PEKIN, IL, APR. 12 Reed Bertilno kicked off the AMA District 17 Dirt Track Series in the right way Sunday as he walked away with first place in the 500cc class. This was the first race of the Pekin Motorcycle Club's DC Cycle/Megacycle/Motorcycle Center of Lombardsponsored series. Twelve riders lined up for the 500cc final and it was heat race winner Wymond Schleyhahn who grabhed the early lead. Schleyhahn led the pack for five laps, but a mistake in tum two let Bertilno slip by and he went on to take the win. A good battle took place for third spot between Bart Schmulbach and Aaron Crockett. Schmulbach held on to take third by inches at the checkered flag. Schmulbach, Jim Hauptman and Greg Sauder led the pack into turn one in the 250cc final. By the end of the first lap Hauptman had snatched the lead and never looked back. Schmulbach moved Sauder back to third on lap six and the top three held all the way to the checkers.
