Kayo's win aboard a Yamaha FZRlOOO, gave Yamaha its first WERA/EBC National Endur- ance overall win since Solmax Racing's .victory last year at Hallet, Oklahoma, on a Yamaha FZ750. Kayo's Rentzell came from 19 seco~ds down to Dutchman Racing with one hour remaining to pass Dutchman and win by 40 seconds. For the first time in many years Indianapolis was not the opening round, but as always this race is the best attended in the series. Seventyfive machines lined up for the start of the six-hour contest. It was quite a sight to see all 75 bikes blast off and roar into tum one. As the smoke cleared, Mike Harth on the Team Suzuki GSXRllOO led with Solmax Racing, Genesis Racing, Dutchman Racing; Kayo Racing, Fubar Racing and the Human Race Team hot on his heels. Behind the lead pack a throng of everything from fire breathing llOOcc Superbikes to diminutive 250cc Production machines were jockeying for position on the 2.5mile circuit. Within four laps Rentzell be~an making his move to second place Just behind Team Suzuki and on the very next lap Doug Brauneck moved up from third to take over the lead. Brauneck and Harth began to swap the lead every couple of laps while Rentzell held the best seat in the house, watching the action just a few bike lengths behind. Team Suzuki pitted just before the first hour, giving Kayo second place at the end of the first hour behind Dutchman. Former Team Hammer rider Dave Sadowski had guided the High-Tech Suzuki GSXRllOO into fourth while the Human Race Team and Genesis Racing crossed the line in a dead heat for fifth at the end of hour one. The racing was very close during the first hour with four teams on lap 32. The leader and eight teams were running on lap 31. Dreyer Yamaha had the dubious distinction of being the first team out after a crash on lap 13. Just after the first hour, Solmax Racing dropped out with a blown engine. Solmax's Scott Russess was turning in a fine performance until the engine went away and Solmax was leading th~ir class when they dropped out. Team Suzuki's Peter Carroll put his team back on lOp during the second hour, but on lap 57 Carroll had trouble. Entering tum six Carroll came up on a lapped rider. As the two went through the esses of turns seven and eight, the lapped rider came across and hit the Suzuki's front wheel sending Carroll and the bike to the pavement. Carroll was unhurt but the bike sustained damage to the ignition. The team lost
