Carsten went on to score the 250cc Expert class win. Fred Mork leads first place 250cc Lightweight rider Mike Green (21) and 350cc Lightweight winner Scott Borem at Sears Point's CVRG Fl R. . It seems that nearly all the Pro riders are in some sort of a hibernation. Only two were on hand and they ran with a bunch of 125cc Intermediates. Kenny Olsen and fellow Kawasaki jockey Gary Beyer swapped moto wins in the class with Olsen winning moto two and taking top honors. The 125cc Intermediates' victory 1:"e~t to ~ce Rudge. Rudge rode qUIte ImpressIvely, topping the second moto battle between himself and Darren Rogers. Rogers' second place finish relegated him to runnerup and put Monty Spalding into third overall with 3-3 performances. Results PIW: 1.John Beaver (Yam); 2. LisaTuller9Yam). 60 JR: 1. Moore, Stewart score at Monterey ST By Mike Vancil MONTEREY, CA, APR. 5 The success formula was learned over the last two outings at the R & D Enterprise-sanctioned and promoted short uacks and it was aptly demonstrated this evening with clear-cut victories by Danny Moore in both the 250cc and Open Expert finals. The victories were not given to Moore as he had Craig Johnson on Hondas in each final. In the 250cc Expert final Moore had first grid ~oice by virtue of his winning the' eIght-lap heat race. At the green light Moore dove to an-immediate lead which he never relinquished. Second was held by Johnson the entire distance but he could make no dent in Moore's lead. Likewise, Kurt Chandler could make no headway in getting by Johnson. They finished in a three-rider freight uain. This confidence builder for Moore preceeded the 500cc Expert final by only 45 minutes. At the green light of the Open Expert final two riders had to watch as their final roared off the line David Woodward and Johnson both had motor problems and did not start. Where Johnson left off Tommy Carriger and his Shoei and Pat Neal Racing-sponsored Rotax began the challenge. Carriger grabbed the lead ~nd hel~ it for eight of the 10 laps lD the fmal. Gradual shortening of the gap between himself and Carriger was the result of hard work by Danny Moore. Finally, in the middle of turn three Moore was able to get a wh~1 under Carriger and beat him iri the drive off the corner. From that point to the checkers it was no ques~on as to who would win; after workmg that hard to gain the point Moore was not about to make a mistake and give it back. . The ~987 season of racing has not, up untIl now, been kind to Steve Stewart and his immaculately prepared pair of Yamahas. He has fallen, had no starts and just in ge'.1eral had lousy racing luck. In the suu:tly 500cc Junior final (no other size machines allowed) he began to unu~ck some of that bad luck by batthng through to finish second behind live wire Anthony Giammanco on his Del Ray Oaks-based Yamaha TT. . In the 500cc OPen (other machines of 250cc displacement allowed) Stewart was able to get the holeshot and hold the lead for the entire 10 laps. Giammanco was not able to get around KeVIn Crowley's converted motocrosser until late in the event and then ran out of laps and time before closing much of the gap between he and Stewart. Stewart was riding carefully, as if holding his breath just waiting for bad luck to strike again, while Giammanco was pitching his racer into the comers with abandon. At times the fans could see more of his under-engine cases than they could see of him. His uy and Stewarts' win were both applauded. Results P/W: 1. Jeff Gabhart (Yam); 2.
