Women's Expert class winner Mercedes Gonzalez (right) and the rest of the Women's class blast off the line at the Sunrise GP. Gus Vounlozos held 0[£ Chris Panek's Yamaha to win the Pee Wee B class. The Pro and Intermediate classes were next and Team honda rider Mickey Dymond brought out his 125 today. When the gate fell Dymond took the lead position and never looked back. Fighting for second place honors were honda· mounted Rich Truchinski, O'Neal's Aron martin and Torco's Willy musgrave now mounted on a Suzuki RM125. This trio stayed in a tight pack with Truchinski finally taking second. In third was Martin at the checkers. Moto two was up for grabs as Dymond experienced some problems on the back of the course and came around the scoring tower six seconds behind the pack. In a matter of two laps Dymond launched him· self of a jump past third and fourth and into second. He made a double jump that no one else coulil equal. Musgrave had the lead, but the factory Honda showed a definate power power advantage and soon powered by. Next Dymond demonstrated to the spectators why he is a factory rider as he railed the very top line on a 45 0 banked corner, turned his bike venually sideways -off the tabletop and made every double on the course look like it was nothing more than sand piles. Gonzales scores at Sunrise GP By David Procida ADELANTO, CA-, MAR. 29 Sunday's Grand Prix at Sunrise Cycle Park ~w a surprise appearance in the Women's class by Team Green's Mercedes Gonzale2, Tami Rice and the CRC's Number One Women's class plate holder Mindy Smith. Gonzalez picked up the class victory after progressively stretching out a lead throughout the race. When the flag fell at the start of the Women's class race, K.O. Halfhill surprised everone on the line and carried the lead into turn one. Halfhill's lead was short-lived as Gonzalez was quickly into the lead, followed closely by Rice. By the start of lap two Gonzalez held a lO-second lead over Rice and third-place Halfhill, who was controlling the Intermediate class lead. Gonzalez held a comfortable margin all the way to the checkered flag. Rice was slowed late in the race by a flat rear tire, but managed to hold on for second overalb--Mindy Smith worked her way past Halfhill and into the Intermediate class lead near the hallway point and held it all the way to the end for third overall. Former National pro Gary Ogden made an appearance in the Vet class, but got off to a slow start when his bike wouldn'tstarl. Tony Milner had the early lead while Ogden was left to work his way through the pack. Ogden was soon on the tail of Kawasaki-mounted Kenny Zahrt, who was holding down second place. Ogden followed Zahrt for one lap, but was quickly past and began to move in on Milner. Ogden got by Milner on the same lap and cruised in for the victory in spectacular fashion.
