Lechien taking the win ahead of Holland, O'Mara and Ward. ''I'm stoked, very stoked," said Lechien. "I felt great out there. I finally got a decent start andjust held it. It was great. I was just hoping and hoping:" ''I'm really surprised," said HoIland. "Before the main, I was just going to try and stay out there and not get into any trouble; try to finish and get some points. But I just kept passing guys and before I knew it, I was in second." "I'm a little bummed," said O'Mara. "I thought I· could've at least got second. I just didn't feel comfortable like I have, and I didn't want to hold George up, because he's in the points hunt more than I am. But I'm in the winner's circle, so I'm happy." 125 Main In the highry compeuuve 125cc class, Tichenor and his Suzuki out- powered everyone into the first turn at the start of the main, while Gates, Barr and Richard Halstead desperately tried to keep Tichenor in sight. Two turns later, Tichenor's teammate, Turpin crashed; remounted and trailed the field. Two other riders bailed during the first lap - Barr and Kenny Bollmeir. Seven laps into the race, Tichenor had labored his way into an 11second lead over Gates, who was fending off DeHoop and Halstead. However, Turpin was the one to watch as he weaved his way through the pack and had control of fourth by lap eight. At the same time, Gates crashed in the whoops, giving second and third to DeHoop and Turpin. A few turns later, Turpin had disposed of DeHoop, and with time running out, Turpin set after Tichenor. Knowing exactly how many laps were left in the race, Tichenor used his time wisely by riding cautiously. Turpin reeled in Tichenor three seconds a lap, but Tichenor w.as in control. Tichenor crossed the finish line with three seconds to spare over Turpin. DeHoop finished third. "I knew if I had any intentions of winning the championship this year," said Turpin, "I had to move up fast, I didn't ride wild; I used my head." • Results SATURDAV 125 MAIN: 1.
