The Open and 125cc B riders ran combined in what was another great race. Rogers had sour luck in moto one and did not finish while 500cc Kawasaki-mounted Dave "Killer" Cotter came from way back to top the moto for the Open win. The 125cc win went to Dennis McConnell. Cotter and Rogers put on quite a show in the second contest. Cotter again was victorious in the Open B class for a I-I win, while Rogers captured the second 125cc B win. Procida PERRIS, CA, MAR. 15 Team Kawasaki's Eddie Warren took wins in both the 125 and 250cc Expert classes today at the Doublecross Grand Prix, held at Perris Raceway. SinasaJo/Pro Circuit-sponsored Jerry Black grabbed the holeshot in the 250cc race, but his stock CR Honda was no match for Warren's factory Kawasaki. Warren passed Black on the first lap and Black pushed his CR250 to the limit in pursuit. The duo pulled away from the field. Running in third aboard a 1987 RM250 was SCR rider Mark Johnson. Rounding out the top five at the end of lap one were Ty Swartz and Joey Tuttobene. Warren led Black by a comfortable margin, and as they came through the scoring chicane Black held a 10second cushion over third-place Johnson. Swartz passed Johnson on the second lap and Luc Deley moved into fifth position. As the race hit the half-way point, lapped riders became a deciding factor in almost every top slot, with the exceptic;m of first place; Warren slipped by the slower riders effortlessly. Swartz had worked his way up to Black's rear fender and as the pair charged side-by-side up the tabletop jump, a lapped rider moved into Black's line and they collided: While Black and the lapper tumbled to the ground, Swartz cruised into second and Johnson inherited thiid. Deley soon took third place from Johnson, and Pat Purnell moved IDto fifth, setting the final order for the top five finishi~g positions. When the flag fell for the start of the l25cc Expert race, Warren powered out of the gate and held the top spot for the full 45 minutes, Without showing any signs of tiring. Buddy Morgan held onto second early in the race, but a lapper took him out of the top three positions. Yamaha-mounted Brett Duncan put on a strong charge to finish second and Rick Weaver took third.
