Jeff Ward had to stop for a fresh set of g09gl.. in the first 250ce moto. but still held on to finish second in both moto. for second overall. 'Kawasaki's Ron Lechien, who bailed off on lap one, was way back in the pack and dropped out with a broken chain on the third lap. Johnson continued to increase his lead and by lap five Ward had fallen almost 20 seconds behind and was struggling through lapped traffic with a pair of mud-wasted goggles.
