PIOIlUtlIOllS. 231112 , ~ _ the qualifiers and took the main at the 7UP/Zurick Eye Wear Spring Classic at John LaDouceur's Inland Motorcycle Speedway. Despite threatening skies a fine crowd came out for the event and they saw a day filled with good clean racing. . . Faria, who captured eight main events at· IMS in 1986, got off to a fine start by pushing his Jawa to the win over Sheffield Tiger Iider Shawn Moran in event one. "Showtime Bobby" Ott, who scored his biggest ever triumph in the 1986 State Championship at IMS, gated the field and built up a nice lead on lap one of event two, but he pulled up with mechanical ills before the lap had ended. That left Shawn McConnell and Rob Pfetzing to battle for the lead a'board their Weslakes. Pfetzing finall y asserted himself and .notched his first three PQints of the afternoon. Bobby Schwartz, fresh off his win the previous evening at Long Beach, s}\lapped the lead back and forth with Lance King in event three. Schwartz finally won the battle and collected three points. Brad Oxley passed Bart . "Purse Snatched" Bast on lap two of event four and took home his initial three points on the cloudy afternoon. Bast, replacing Alan Christian, continued to impress the Southern California fans in event six. The youngest held back King and Faria until the last lap of the race when they bOlh slipped by for first and second spot Even so, Bast received a nice hand from the appreciative fans for a good show. Schwartz was looking good as he defeated Moran in event seven and he was the only rider to card a perfect score after two rounds. Ott got his motor ills sorted out and won from young Gary Hicks, Oxley and John Sandona in event eighL Event nine matched Pfetzing and Schwartz, the two riders who had a runoff to decide the 1986 National Championship. The lead see-sawed back and .forth but when the checkered cloth fell it was Pfetzing in the point ·position. Sandona, . who knows the IMS surface as well as anyone, came into event 10 with zero points but he quickly rectified that by riding the inside line to a win over Faria. Ott displayed his spectacular form once again in event 11 and he edged Moran giving him two wins in a row while Moran only had six points from three outings. Ferrell and Sandona looked quite the part by taking events 12 and 13 respectively, but it was event 14 that almost brought the house down. That race matched Faria, Ferrell, Ott and Schwartz. Faria, off the pole and Schwartz from the outside, got off first. Faria took Schwartz wide on lap one and took the lead. Ott got inside Schwartz out of four and edged his way into second. All four could have fit under' a blanket until lap four when Ott bobbled in second and thaI slowed everyone but Far4t down. Faria took a win chased by Ott, Ferrell and Schwartz but all of them heard the cheers from the enthusiastic fans. Oxley won event 15 from King, McConnell and Moran and it was quite obvious that either Moran or his machinery was a little off form.. The first red of the day came in event 16 when Keith Larsen laid his bike down to avoid a crash. On the restart it was all Pfetzing to come home ahead of Cook and Hicks. Ott earned his ticket to the main by defeating Steve Lucero in event 17. Faria then joined ,the main event field with a big win over Cook and Oxley in event 18. Moran finally won his first race in the final round when he won from
