When the Vet Amateur line hit the first tum Ken Dickson, Raymond Cates and Jeff Lambson found themselves leading a pack of fast Vets up the hill into the hairpin. Dickson took the early lead on his Honda with the Kawasaki of Cates taking over second place from Yamaha-mounted Lamson. The Novice line featured the largest class of this event with over 20 riders. Mark Cartwright, riding a Honda, not .only took the holeshot, but proceeded to run away from the rest of the Novices. Novice Richard Roberts had lO ballie Dave Miller for the second place SpoL Up front Jones was starting to lap slower riders, which allowed Porter. also on a Honda CR250, lO get within striking range. Wallingsford was holding a steady third. Dickson was still in charge of the Amateur class with Cales hot on. his heels. Lambson was stiLI holding onto third place honors with first ovice Vet Cartwright closing in. The Roberts-Miller duo was still raging on at this point in the race. John Gill was holding onto first Beginner slot with Tim Morrison and Louie Tevis tagging along for second and third. At the fall of the checkered flag Jones took the overall win and first place Vet Expert points with Porterand Wallingsford close behind. . In the Amateur class Dickson was denied the win when Cates caught him napping in the last corner before the checke.red, then won the drag race to the flag. Cartwright easily won the Novice class and was challenging third Amateur Lambson at the finish.
