Round 12 saw four starts with Brown and Ormiston down the first time, then it was Ormiston and Lazor, and then Lazor and Hermanl. At the finish it was Brown, still perfect with Ormiston a sore-bodied second over Hermant and Lazor's first ~oose-egg. Point coun ting got real personal at the start of the last round with Bart Bast winning round 13 over Curry and Kehoe. Scotty Brown won his fO\lrth straight for the high point honors and a spot in the main while Steve Martin's second was only good enough for a tie with a bunch at seven points. Lazor got on track with a win over Sam Bast and Kniss to make the main but only after he had thrown the Skoal Bandit special away and luckily had a red with Kniss leading Bast and Evits. Dave Faria continued to have good starts on his Richmond Yamaha! BMW/Jawa but it was Briggs at the checkers and nine points total to go to the main along with Ermolenko at eight points. . The Division Two guys got their chance in between· Division One rounds with Shawn Reppert winning the first round and making the main after some strange crashing. Harlan "Pops" Bast topped the second round, Ken Thiebaud the third, and Dave Perry the final heal. "Pops" Bastgotthe pole withouta pick and looked good for a turn or two but it was Reppert the Division Two winner over Thiebaud. Brown picked the pole from the hat'and then rode off with the feature event with ease to add a cerrain amount of finality to the long nighl. Briggs held on for second after losing Ermolenko and Lazor to icing conditions. Saturday night'S rendition was preceeded by a special riders' meeting that estabhshed that not every race would be red flagged because of a downed rider. It was to be a godsend as the Cow Palace swelled to near capacity. Once aga~"the 16 race program wou 10. take the tOP four to the final. After Briggs took out Faria in the first attempt, Sam Bast LOlilk the lead in a good jump, bui Briggs Jr., chased him and actually moved him out of the way for the win in round one. Round two had no falls and Brown was still perfect ~inning over Ermalenko and Curry. The third heat was a version of Rollerball by itself with Ormiston crashing into the turn one bales. As the race went on Martin passed Kehoe for the lead followed by Barr Bast who chased and caught and passed the Canadian to win and get the crowd into a real party-time mode. Lazor had little trouble i'n heat four over Gray and Steachman and the poor Brit, Evits, another zero. Brown was still perfect with a win in h~at five but Martin pulled very close at the checkers with Sam Bast third. Ermolenko rode around Kehoe to win heat six; despite a fine effort from Briggs who took third. Ormiston got the jump in round seven but Lazor went around as Gray stalled to give Curry third. Faria got his patented start in race eight with Bart Bast all over him and slam-hang time, but it was to be Faria's race with Bart second over Steachman. With two rounds complete, defending champ Lazor and former champ Brown were still perfect. Ermolenko got back in tune with a win in heat nine after Ormiston bit the wall again while teammate Steachman took second over Jaudon.
