In the early trials bike competition, Conley took home the plaque for best in show with his 1962 Scottish model. Mike Beanway's 1967 Challenger took the honors in the Challenger class, and the award for Best Gri££in went to Dennis Buckley of Valencia, with his 1970 model. Judged Best Early Greeves was a 1962 Motocross Special owned by Rick Nabers of Newport Beach. ''I'm especially fond of this bike because this model ruled the California desert in the early '60s," said Nabers. "Nick Nicholson used to ride Lhese. All the desert greats used to have one of these." Saturday night's rain left the trials course in perfect condition for Sunday morning. The nine trials sections were ridden twice by each competitor, wiLh the lowest scores in each class determining the winneJ'. This year's scores ranged from a low of nine to a high of 59. Easily taking ove.rall honors and the win in the Master's class with a score of nine was Ernie Stair on his Anglian. Erniee£fortlessly zeroed most' of the traps and gave the spectators a rea l show of how to "clean" each section.
