Cow Palace (Continued from page 53) Brown finally met his nemisis in race 10. He led out and looked good but it was Bart Bast on the move and to the delight of a tumultuous crowd, Bast rode around Brown and won. Martin and Sam Bast hooked up together in heat II with Team Tim's Martin in control. Lazor pulled off his third straight win over Kehoe and Faria in heat 12. For the final rounds, the gate broke and flag starts were the sudden venue. Bart Bast got a good flag while Jaudon biffed the wall and it was Bast with the three points over Brit Evit and Jaudon. Heat 14 saw Briggs and Kniss come together and take Ormiston down with them. The decision to put Briggs on the penalty line was not met well by the crowd. Lazor continued to get the starts and became Mr. Perfect for 12 points with Kniss second over Ormiston and Briggs in race 14. Ermolenko and Brown would play the side-by-side game for a lap until Ermolenko suddenly went wide and Brown won and had II points to join Lazor in the main. Faria had the lead at the start of the final heat but it was Martin riding around Eor the win and the tie for second with Brown. The final spot in the main would go to the winner of a run-off between Ermolenko and Bast, who were tied at 10 points each. The frenzy of a good show was pinnacIed as Bast and Ermolenko came to center ice to draw for position. Bast drew the pole but it was Ermolenko out front as they went around the first corner. Bast hooked . up and got some traction and chased him down by the third corner but was over-commited for the tuin and it was crushed ice time Eor both. Both riders were up and okay but the referee's decision was to put Bast on the penalty line and knowing what a non-race that would be, Ermolenko fired off and lined up next to Bast, much to the delight of the crowd, and the sure sign of a great champion. The flag start saw the two get real crazy for one lap of a side-by-side rac. ing and then Bast got wide off the fourth corner and smacked the wall. The Division Two guys had their four heats with John Grant winning the first one, Scott Spivey the second, Ken Thiebaud the third, and "Pops" Bast the final one. For the Division Two main, Grant went for the bucket first and drew the second spot while Spivey got the outside and Thiebaud drew third. Bast J didn't make it for the draw but wound up on the pole and led around the corner onl y to see the red flag because Spivey and Thiebaud had hooked together. On the rematch it was Thiebaud going for it and Bast going for the ice. The third start saw Spivey hit the ice .and finally Thiebaud got his way and the win over Grant. The main moved to center ice right on schedule with greatintroductions. Martin pulled the pole with Ermolenko outside and Brown sandwiched with Lazor as the flag waved, but it was Ermolenko from the outside in the lead Eor good. "I guess you could say I got a good start," he said after the show, but Brown was all over him for the last three corners. - Results FRIDAY MAIN: 1. Scott Brown; 2. Tony Briggs; 3. George Lazor; 4.
