Yamaha-mounted Scooter Stafford won the Open Pro/Am final. Action in the 250cc class featured vacation'ing German Superbike Champion, Ernst Gschwender, who rode a borrowed cycle to 14th. Gschwender said, "I wish the FIM and AMA would get together on Superbike rules so I could ride Daytona." Tommy Knapp ruled the class, but 'Tim Dertardis cruised LO the championship. Robin Frey dominated 500cc Novice action, but Rick Perry out-bauled Dan Crawford for the title. Perry said, "Dan and I passed each other fourorfive times out there LOday. We had a great race." Chris Brown, 85cc 7-11 poimleader, saw his odds diminish, as his Kawasaki seized on the first lap and his competition, Michael Poore, LOok the win. Brown said, "Dad put in a used pisLOn and it ran well enough to win the final moto for the championship. Kawasaki's John Kitsch swept the 85cc 12-15 motos, Derek Youngblood kept Kitsch in his sights for the tille. Youngblood explained, "Woody Kyle did my engine and I have never ridden a faster bike." Don Millhiesen and David Indiveti raced hard in the Senior Division. Beach Yamaha SUppOTl team's Mathiesen said, "I LTashed my from disc in the first moto, but got it repaired in time to win the second."
