Miami Vice (43) moved into second on lap 53 and finished on the lead lap; Pee Wee Racing (83) ended up 19th overall. with Miami Vice second and the EwerthiHarth combo third. The next lap Cycle Pro moved into ,second. Kayo Racing's fuel problem had cost the team two laps and dropped them to 16th place by the end of 30 laps. On lap 31, Cycle Pro took the lead, Miami-Vice Racing held second, and third was High Tech Racing all on the same lap. The West Florida Racing continued to hold the GTU lead while running eighth overall. Paul Smith Racing had taken over second with third going to the Out &: Out Racing/Kerker/Cycle Nuts &: Bolts Yamaha FZ600 of Marc Lautzenhiser and Paul Bray. Early GTU front runners front Row Racing had dropped out ofthe race while running fifth. On lap 45 the Zlock , Racing GSXRI lOO Suzuki of Dale Zlock and Kei th Pinkstaff moved into third as the front l:W0 put a lap on . ~g; Miami Vice and Second City"R.a~. Second City Racing (13) passes Zlock Racing (121); Second City finished fifth overall while Zlock ended up seventh. As the field completed the first five laps, Rentzell had the Kayo Racing GSXR in 15th place and on the move. On the next lap Shorts began to experience difficulty with his Suzuki and gradually began to drop from contention. By lap 12 the team wasoutof the race. "It just lost its spark, we think it might have been the coil," said Lockhart's crew chief Keith Perry. As Lockhart dropped out of the lead, Rentzell had the Kayo GSXR in the lead with High Tech Racing running second and the S&:L Enterprises GSXRIIOO of Larry Scholl, Robbie Scholl and Kamran Pakyab third. Ewerth and Harth had moved the Cycle J>ro Suzuki into the 14th position and were slowly picking off riders as they moved to the front. West Florida Racing continued to lead GTU with J&:J Racing second while thi'rd in GTU continued to be the EMHO Raang/Hoeppner Hauling/ Dublin Kawasaki Ninja 600 of brothers Jeff, Dick and Kirk Hoeppner. Fourth was the Jam-Up Racing II FZ600 of Bob Rentzell and AHan Mueller and fifth in GTU was the Lofgren Racing Yamaha FZ600 of Ian Nicholson and Guy Hiney. Lap 16 had the S&:L Enterprise entry drop to fourth with the Team Hyper-Cycle Suzuki GSXRllOO of Jeff Herzog and Carry Andrew moving into third. The Miami Vice Racing/Speed &: Sport Cycle GSXRIIOO of Thomas Stevens and Steve Tedler was on the move and took over third by lap 21. Kayo Racing's charge slowed on lap 25 when Rentzell ran Qut of gas in the infield. Many of the teams had begun to have fuel problems with several saying they were not getting as good of mileage as they had in the October race. High Tech Racing now moved back in front Three lapslater Second City moved into second as Cycle Pro euta full lap on the field. The next lap the standings shurned again with High Tech Racing moving hack to second, Miami Vice third and Second City dropped to fourth. Deano Swims was now on the Kayo Racing Suzuki and moving the bike back to the front, rurtning 11th and on the gas. As the race headed into the final laps, Second City Racing, High Tech ~acing, Miami Vice and Zlock Racing continued to swap positions. Most of the teams would have to make at least one more fuel stop and brakes were now becoming a concern with the teams as the high speeds at Daytona focused heavy brake pad wear. Lap 53 had Miami Vice move back to second with RentzeU now out on the Kayo Racing Suzuki, taking over fourth a lap down on the leaders. Miami Vice had worked their way back on the lead lap with Cycle Pro. By lap 63 High Tech ran third and also moved on the lead lap. The Jam Up II Racing FZ600 had taken over the GTU lead. High Tech Racing had been suffering fuel problems the entire day and the riding of J uerink and Sadowski was the only thing that kept the tearn in the running. "Something's wrong with our fuel valve," Juerink said. "We've run out of gas three times, it seems like it's getting worse every time we pit. We're getting less mileage every time." On lap 68, High Tech pitted to work on the valve, dropping them to fifth and moving Kayo into third. Cycle Pro was going to take a chance and try and finish the race without another fuel stop. "This may be the-Geoff Bodine pits here in a minute, we're gonna go for it,"'Fasola said. "If Mike goes on reserve we'll have to pit." Trouble contiDued to haunt the Kayo entry and with a sure third place in the hag, Rentzell had trouble on the last lap when his throttle stuck, dropping them to a sixth place finish. At the checker it was Cycle Pro making their fuel gamble pay off. "We lost our brakes at the star,t of the race. ( was having to really shut off early and that was tough," said Harth. "We didn't have much practice and we lost the brakes around the 55th lap. I was trying to pick things up to catch them, butjustdidn't have the brakes," said Miami Vice Racing's Thomas Stevens. "My throttle stuck open going into the international horseshoe on the last lap," said Kayo's Rentzell. Cycle Pro covered the 250 miles in two hours 39 minutes for their first endurance win of the season. Following Cycle Pro and Miami Vice was the third place Team Safari Suzuki GSXRIlOO of John Long and Steve Guanche with fourth going to High Tech Racing. Taking fifth overall was Second City Racing. Jam Up Racing II took the GTU win. "We ran low on oil on our second stop and started losing power," said Rentzell. Following Jam Up II was Out &: Out Racing and third in GTU was the Hornett Racing Yamaha FZ600 for Bill Hornblower and Tom Douglas. • Results OVERALL: 1. Cycle Pro (Suz~ 2. Miami Vice - (Suz); 3.
