Yamaha-mounted Damon Bradshaw (68) smoked to the 125cc Amateur win via a 1-1 tally at Montrose motocroSs.. coming out on lOp. Back in the pack, Millan had £lipped on the start and McQuaig went o££ the course and had. to make up for lost time. With the molO over, Perry scored the win and Kitsch moved past Maloy for second place. Joiner's fourth and fifth tally netted her a fourth while Brown's eighth and fourth score gave her fifth despite some technical problems. Taking the 125cc holeshot was Kawasaki-mounted Travis Blackburn. Daring the doubles, Blackburn nose dived but was able to keep upright. Honda-mounted Chris Douglas from Gainesville was on the gas and out to dispose of Blackhurn. In third was Kyle Myers, who also competes in the Mini Novice class. Holding down the 2 fifth place spot was Lee Strickland. On the second lap, Blackburn had already worked himself up a good lead. Strickland dropped back a couple of positions by this time. Blackburn was pulling away as the second through fourth position riders locked inlO a tight battle. Murdock and Strickland were going at it hot and heavy when Strickland went down, and dropped out of the race. By the fifth lap, Douglas was coming on a little stronger and Blackburn was now twisting the throttle harder. Marx, Smith, and Myers were now raging a three-way war between themselves. Lap five saw Blackburn spin out and Douglas powered his Honda to the lead with Blackburn now in tow. At the finish, it was Douglas in front. Time ran out for Blackburn with the checkered flag coming too soon. Smith and Myers were third and fourth with Murdock taking a fifth. The second mota was again going 10 be a matchup between Blackburn and Douglas though the first lap was dominated by Douglas with Blackburn only a heartbeat away. In third Marx was feeling heat from Myers and Smith. On the second lap, Strickland was running third, with Smith tucked in behind him. By the midway point, Douglas went down hard. Blackburn once again had the lead while Marx was in second and challenging. Strickland had dropped back from fourth to sixth. Blackburn won the mota 10 earn first overall. Marx's second place finish was soured a little by his ninth in the first moto but his second rallied him to a fifth overall. A three and five tally netted Smith a third and Murdock snagged a fourth with his five and four score. Bradshaw brothers blast Montrose MJC By Gary Crider FAYETTEVILLE, NC, FEB. I Brothers Damon and lack Bradshaw, fresh from the Florida MX wars, invaded Montrose MX and captured wins in the 125cc Amateur and 65cc Mini Divisions, respectively. The event marked the halfway point in the six-race Carolina Winter MX Series here. Over 220 entrants from seven states were on hand. Yamaha's Damon Bradshaw made his 125cc Amateur class win look easy as he outdistanced the pack in both motos for a perfea score. Kevin Walker gave chase in moto one and finished second. Walker DNF the second maIO while William Mutimer posted ~-2 finishes to claim runner-up honors. Series leader Bobby Houser were sidelined for the day when his Honda's engine seized early in the first mota. lack Bradshaw faced sti££ competition from series'leader Chuck Shirley in 65cc Mini action. Shirley holeshot the opening moto with Bradshaw in close pursuit. Bradshaw took over the lead on lap two but Shirley stayed close for an eventual close finish. In maIO two, Bradshaw again edged Shirley to finish with a perfect score. Ray's Kawasaki-backed Shirley came back in Junior Mini racing to win via his I-I score. Senior Mini action saw series leader Jim Neese go by Chad Lough to take the first mota win. In maIO two, however, O'Neal's Neese su££ered a spill a~d could only manage an I I th place finish.
