Third overall went to Tom McAllister (second Open A), who dropped a total of 14 points. Rounding out the top rive was Honda rider Lowell Spiva ([irst Vet A), and Honda CRl25-mounted Pete Postel ([irst 200cc A). The event was put on by the Ventura County Motorcycle Club and $4000 o[ contingencies were given away. Three loops were used at the AMAIDistriet 37 First Chance Enduro with the second loop being the LOughest, keeping all the riders on their toes. A third loop was also used but only for A and B riders. It featured a straight 24 mph speed average and was very technical. Vet B rider Steve Bebeck topped the Band Criders after dropping just . eight points, while Lisa Latham captured loop one honors with 18 points. Harrold Matthews edged. out Suzuki [actory-supportrider Vince DeVane to take the overall in the 125cc A class at the first round of Dade City Raceway's 1987 Points Championship Series. Nearly 200 riders participated in the first race of the season under the new improved lighting system. The temperature dropped, but the excitement of the first race o[ the series warmed the spirits. Kurtis Barron was the fastest of[ the line at the start oEthe first I 25ccA moLO. Matthews cut ahead in the first mrn to take over the lead and pulled away from the pack. Rob McCullough [ollowed DeVane as they charged alter Barron. Barron went down, allowing the Suzuki pilot to move up on the leader. Matthews kept on the gas but his front tire washed out up in th.e sand and he went down, letting DeVane fly by. McCullough moved into second before Matthews could get back in the running. With DeVane long gone, Matthews charged McCul- lough and passed, but couldn't shake him 0[[ his rear fender. DeVane took the win; Matthews, McCulIough, Barron and Greg Nelson [ollowed. Matthews led the pack at the stan of moto two. DeVane swapped out coming off the line and felI on the starting grid. He recovered. to get back in the running, but at the back of the pack. Matthews started. to pulI away leaving Barron and McCullough to battle behind him. McCulIough moved into second, with DeVane charging at his back tire. He held OeVane off to [olIow Matthews in [or the win. Sybert edged. Robert Noa for the lead at the start o[ the first 250cc B moto then ran away to the win.
