BRAND NEW TOUGH TRACK You've probably heard this often about track designs, but this time it's really true. The 1987 San Diego track is new and tough. Here's why: In the past, SXl has always had to build the San Diego Supercross track wit.hin certain restrictions; like having to go around the baseball diamond, or away from the sprinkler heads. But this year for the first time, there are no restrictions because they are going to completely resod the field after the race. The entire playing field can be used for the Supercross track! With this good news, SXI immediately scrapped the initial track design, and new diagrams were put on the drawing board. At the same time, Gary Cox, who created the winning "Cox's Ghastly Gorge" for Superbowl '86, joined the company as a track consultant. A Civil Engineer by profession, Cox put his expertise to work on both the Anaheim and the San Diego tracks. Keeping the revised footprint Cox redesigned the entire San Diego track; repositioning the straights, jumps, whoops and corners into a progressive system of obstacles. Now, after three design changes, this track is still undergoing lastminute revisions. Following the Anaheim race, Gary Cox and the track crews have been busy evaluating the technical results on video tape, studying t.he impact of the new "Equalizers" in the corners, and analyzing the angles of the jumps; to bring t.he success of Anaheim to San Diego. Only the best, hottest and toughest obstacles will be built in San Diego! Among these will be two sets of monster triple jumps, the famed "Schwarzott's Slammer," "Ghastly Gorge," "Suzuki Sidewinder," "Broc's Bad News" plus the awesome new "T-Bone," another Gary Cox thriller!
