Motocross fan Unda Slater enjoys the Florida sunshine. f joe Waddington turned in his best .performance of the series, taking third overall. The Open class show opened with Keller's scorching holeshot, followed by Emery Anden, Steve Desidero, Liles, David McLean and john Collins. Liles' Kawasaki took the runnerup spot on lap two and the Kellerl Lile show was on once again. Keller held a narrow lead through lap nine, then Liles took a turn up front for six laps. Liles cast his clogged goggles off as the pair passed Dave Arnold's whi~ flag, then Keller challenged over the double jump. The duo swapped lines once again, with Keller finally taking the checkered first. Liles, who slowed dramatically at the flag, said, "My mouth is dry and I feel weak and dehydrated. I couldn't sleep last night." T&:D Yamaha/WKR-supported 'Collins took third [rom Canadian Shane Drew early in the race and finished there. Keller erased Drew's holeshot on the second lap in moto two and the redheaded strongman motored to an easy win. Keller admitted later, "I hurt my ankle a little in the first moto. Team Green's jeff Chambers rebuilt my 250 cylinder, but I decided to save my strength [or the final Open moto." Keller's mechanic, Graham Barber, said, "jo jo will be 25 tomorrow. He gave himseH the win for a birthday present." Drew, McLean and Collins put on the show [or second. McLean took the runner-up spot, but Collin's third netted second overall for his day's e[£ort. McLean, who saw his point lead go to Kelle.r, said, "This sand is not for me. I hope I can win it back at Gatorback." Amateur Edmund Swearingen, who aced the 250cc and 500cc B classes for the third week in a row, said, "In the first 250cc moto, I was passing a guy and he moved in under me on a jump. I landed on him and crashed hard. I was really lucky to get fourth in the moto." Class A 250/500cc competitor jon McCabe ruptured his femural artery in a 250cc crash. Thanks to quick work by emergency personnel and Lykess Memorial Hospital surgeons, the Melbourne, Florida, rider was released and sent home the following day. Peru's Tommy Rios self-destructed his 125cc A class holeshot, leaving Carroll Richardson (873) leads Guy Cooper (15) and Fred Andrews (44) in the 125cc clas~ Cooper and Andrews finished second and third behind Ronnie Tichenor while Richardson finished out of the top ijve. f Ronnie Tichenor took over the 125cc point lead at Croom. Mark Lachouizz, jay Mann, and Greg Bowen in control. Mann and his Barrl Hi-"point/Scott/Pj-l-backed Kawasaki went on to win. Mike Larocco came back from a poor start to finish fourth behind Bowen at the flag. Mann, Rios, Bowen and Larocco got clean starts in moto two, with Larocco's Gear/ScottSupport Yamaha bumping Mann's Kawasaki for the win on lap six. Bowen stalled his bike, but got restarted and took second overall away from Mann on the.final lap. Bowen's Support Honda evened the score with his riding buddy Larocco by sweeping the 250cc A class. Canadian Carl Vaillancourt finished between the pair. David Mack, Tim Ely and Rick Lindell all showed flashes o[ brilliance in the 500cc motos, but ew jersey's Bob Sorenson won all the marbles with two solid action packed motos. "My gearing was wrong," explained Sorenson, "I felt like I was riding a 250." Kawasaki/Barr-supported john Kitsch, who topped his nemesis, Damon Bradshaw, in 125cc B action, said, '''Damon was' right besides me on the start o[ the first moto. I just held it on and won," jeff Puterbaugh topped Swearingen in the first 250cc B moto, but the series leader DNF the final. In the 7-11 Mini division, joshua Latina contined his romp of the buzzing 65s.
