Avon's Roadrunner also has a warranty program. are not incJud~d in the warranty. The warranty also requires that the tire be mounted and balanced by the Avon selling dealer. If there is a claim to be filed it has LO be done through a dealer. Continental is also initiating a warranty program with its line of LOuring tires, the Conti Tours. The warranty differs from that of Avon in both mileage and time. Continental's program calls for a 16,000 mile or 48 month time span. The Continental warranty covers Conti Tours mounted on the Honda Goldwing, Yamaha Venture Royale, Suzuki Cavalcade, Kawasaki Voyager, BMW KlOORTandall Harley-Davidsons. Continental's warranty also calls for the tires to be bought from and mounted by a dealer and be inspected every 3000 miles. The Continental TKI6 front and TKI7 rear feature a 6-ply rated casing with two belts and a layer of "damping rubber" between the front tire's two belts and the underlying carcass. Continental boasts improved air retention because of a brom butyl inner lining and seal. "The real secret of high mileage is in tread design and tread compounding," Continental vice president Arnold van Ruitenbeek said. 'These tires have deep grooves, designed LO disperse water in wet weather. The front tire has a center groove for better directional tability at high speeds while the rear tire has no center groove fo, smooth rain groove handling and for increased comfort." The third tire manufacturer LO make the plunge into the highly-competitive LOuring market in 1987 is BridgeSLOne. The Japanese company, however, is steering clear of the warranty and instead will market a LOuring "radial." Bridgestone did tests with an independent tire testing company and lJ1e Spitfire Touring Radial scored impressively in the mileage tests. According LO BridgesLOne the &ont tire showed a projected tread life of 53,000 miles while the rear showed a 28,000 mile Iife expectancy. The front tire's tread pattern is made up of both inner and outer rib grooves while the rear features a zigzag groove pattern. The "radial" is constructed of nylon belts over a twoply ny Ion radial carcass. The Michelin High Tour line includes touring tires for the complete line of big touring bikes and now with its five new sizes (blackwall without raised white letters), Michelin will be a ble to ca ter LO those wi th cruisers who wish to use LOuring tires. _ .OTORCYCLE ATVEXPO Catch an up-close look at all the 1987 product lines! • Hundreds of motorcycles, ATVs, accessories & apparel - Free rider education seminars - Tour Country product display and demonstrations sponsored by Rider Magazine & Rider Motorcycle Touring Club • Cycle World Collector Series display of antique and classic motorcycles _ . _ ~ Ifr.~ -.. ~@~----/ -II .. c,......
