It's warl Are you willing to fight? So what did you do your first day at work this year? Since I know you didn't write a letter, here's your chance to make up on that New Year's resolution. Forget losing weight, a training program or giving up them stogies for right now. Things a helluva lot more serious have occurred, and a lot more quickly than any of we bikers expected. Senior Senator Cranston and his cronies have declared war on us. This was no sneak atlack. AlI the warning signals were up. Cranston's reelection assured us of that. On his first day at "the office," he didn't waste any time. Another "Wilderness" bill was introduced. And three others were introduced in the House of Represenlatives w boot. That's four strikes against us already! Now I already know that most of you folks out there didn't vote last November. Here's your opportunity lo make up for letting Senator Cranswn and all his zealOl buddies get a job up "on the hill" again. And this is easier than going up w the voting polls and filling out all those ballots. Writea leller. A postcard. Anything . .. please! Don't tell yourself that you can't write. Politicians don't measure any leller writer's literacy quotient. Honest. Numbers are what count. Numbers of letters and 14¢ post cards and scribblings on lOilet tissue. In a real, live shootin' war you'd be called a coward for not doing your duty. Well how'd you like it if someone came up and calIed you a coward for nOl sending oU your leller? Or how about your buddies calling you "chicken"? Your neighbors saying you ain't got no guts? Your kids hiding from you 'cause you don't have any brass? All 'cause you wouldn't write a simple note. So what's the deal? You won't be able lO ride, visit or enjoy desert anymore - forever. For that maller nOl much of anyone will be able w. Precise delails aside, existi ng access to California's desert regions wilI be abolished, save by (oot or horseback. Your chi Idren and grandchildren and on will be locked out or corralled in. Even most Sierra Clubbers will be prohibited access (they justdon'ueaIize it yet). But wait; there's more. In the "domino effect" evada is next. Then Arizona. Then Colorado. Then ... well, aJl public lands west of the Mississippi. The area in California designated for the Wilderness Bills constitutes over one-third of the Slate (including adjacent military reserves, parks, wilderness area ,private lands, etc.). It's an area greater than 17 of America's slatesl
