Muscular Dystrophy Association presents . .. Billy Abel (93) leads Greg Bowen in 125cc A action. Honda out front in th'e first l25cc moto. Carroll Richardson, Keith Turpin and Tichenor joined Cooper in the quest to unseat Fred Andrews from his winning streak in the class. It took Tichenor three laps to bump his Suzuki teammate, Turpin, from the number two spot. Richardson, Jeff Frisl and Andrews fought for fourth. Tichenor and his MX Fox/Dunlop/ ScottiArai Suzuki reeled in Cooper on lap nine and he made his move on an uphill jump for the moto win. Tichenor said, "Cooper bobbled and gave me a place to pass. The bike has all the motor you could ask for and handles great." Turpin explained, after taking the third spot ahead of Frisl and Andrews, "I still feel the effect of my fall at Gatorback. I'm not impressed with my ride today. It's going to take a little time to come back." In moto two Tichenor hooked the holeshot then soared off the jumps alone like a kid enjoying himself for his first pro win. Cooper kept him in sight but never was close enough to challenge. Andrews held off Frisl and Richardson for third. As Tichenor celebrated in his pits area, he said, "Taking over the point lead today is a birthday present- for my mechanic Alan Barker." Chris Coleman, on the Hi-Point/ Precision Performance/Scott-backed Kawasaki, upset the featured 250cc match between HanNah and Bowen and led the first three laps as Hannah, Keller, Ross Pederson, Joe Waddington and Bowen tried to move up. Hannah moved up on Coleman and bounced by on the main straight for the lead. Bowen gained the second spot on lap 10, but it was too late -Hannah was long gone. Bowen said, "John Reinholt [ell and I hit him. If you get too far behind on this track, you'll lose. That's all there is to it." Moto two gave the fans what they wanted; T&D Cycles-backed Reinholt took the point with Hannah, Mark Murphy, Bowen and Pederson close behind. Hannah moved by Reinholt in the long sweeper for the lead and soon had Bowen for company. Bowen, on the AXO/Bell/Ohlins/Scott Yamaha, used a combination of jumping both doubles in tandem to gain on Hannah on lap five. Hannah rebounded with an inside move in the hairpin to retake the lead. Hannah said, "I heard Bowen's me engine traction behiln.di• •. gettin~ * ONE NIGHT ONLY! * SATURDAY FEBRUARY 7 THE ASTRODOME - 8:00 PM • See all the top Supercross Riders take Qn the awesome obstacle -laden Astrodome Trackl • See· current champion IRicky Johnson, Jeff Ward, Ron Lechien, Johnny O'Maraland the worlds best in an elearif jng ni ht of Supercross Actionl • See Nissan's Motorc Ie and AN Expo in the adjacent Astrohall, Friday through Sunday, February 6-8! • See the onl motol( Ie race in Houston this ear!
