Jon McCabe (168) grabs the holeshot at the start of the 250cc A class. Mike Larocco (559) captured the class win.. Fred Andrews and his Honda traded moto wins with Cooper in the 125cc PrO class and wound up with the victory. It's his second win in a row. "J oJa loves this track," said his mechanic Graham Barber. "The rougher the better for JoJo." T and D Yamaha-backed Collins dialed into the number two spot and held off David McLean and Kapitan. "Keller had this track wired," Collins said. "I couldn't begin to catch him." Keller roosted away again in mota two leaving the best duel between Collins, McLean and Kapitan. Collins held off a persistent McLean until the pair tried different lines in a sweeper. McLean got ahead and Collins flipped over his adversaries' rear wheel. Collins' bike hesitated on the restart and he fell back to seventh place. Van Nest wrested second from McLean with three laps to go to clinch number two overall. Keller praised his bike at the finish, "I just love this big Kawie," he said. "I wan ted the holeshot bad. In these conditions, passing can eat up your goggles. The big mOLOr pulled hard and gave the start'and it was easy after that. " Amateur Upsets were the order of business in the Amateur ranks as opening day series leads LOppled like dominos. Michigan's Mike Larocco and Florida's Edmond Swearingen earned double wins. Larocco won the 125 and 250cc A classes aboard)J.is Gear/ Scott USA/Larocco Cycle Yamaha. TF/Kawasaki of Lake Wales-sup. ported Swearingen whipped the 250cc and 500cc B field. Jay Mann sorted out the first lap of l25cc A action with Harold Mathews, Dale Spangler, Kenny Kizzar and Greg Bowen in good shape. Larocco went down in the second turn, picked uJt his bike and was soon in the hunt. "I caught up LO Mann and passed him on the big hill in the back for the win," Larocco said. MaLO two featured Kizzar at the point with Carl Vaillancourt and Justin Oho on his heels. Larocco, meanwhile, was near the back. He needed only four laps, however, LO bump Kizzar from the first place perch. "I had to walCh out for Bowen," Larocco said. "We are travelling together this winter and he was right behind me for second." Team Green/ScottiKal-Gard-sponsored Dale Spangler ripped both 250cc A holeshots, but had to seule for second as the mota wins went LO David Kelley and Larocco. Kizzar lost the lead in the first mota when he wasn't given a flag and hit a downed rider. Series leader Kell y crashed in the first turn of the final mota, but rallied for third overall. Larocco passed' Bowen over the tunnel jump for the lead and put in another impressive ride for his second overall win. Gatorback 500cc A winner, Mike Stahman, passed Jon McCabe's seized Honda and his JT/Scou/Kal-Gardsupported Yamaha dominated the race until the final lap. "The bike was working well, but I messed up and fell near the end," Stahman said. Kawasaki's Mike Bremer LOpped Bob Sorensen and Rick Lindell for the malO win, but was injured in 250cc action and was unable to appear in maLO two. Andy Michner romped from the sixth place spot to win the final maLO, but the dramatics were between Lindell and Sorensen for the overall. Sorensen's S.ommerseu Cycle KTM moved past Lindell to score the overall. "This is my kind of track. I love foul weather," said the New Jersey rider. In l25cc B action, Damon Bradshaw and John Kitsch resumed their battle. Bradshaw sprained his wrist, however, and Kitsch took the first mota and looked like a natural in the second go, until a lapper took him out. David BeckingLOn's Larocco/ Dynamics/Precision Fabricating Honda took advantage of a solid ride to earn the overall win. In the 7-11 division Joshua Latina added two more 65cc motos to his tally and Timmy Ferry upset Chris Brown and Ezra Lusk with a sweep in 85cc motos. "Honda awarded me a support ride," Ferry said. "I can't believe how quickly 1could win with it." Kawasaki/Barr-supported Kitsch aced the 85cc 12-15 field to pass an injured Bradspaw in the standings.
