battled side-by-side for the lead for most of the la p, bu t as they came in to the last section of the track, Ward zapped Leisk and rocketed into the lead. The drag race to the checkered flag ended with Ward five bike lengths in fTOnt of Leisk and the overall winner. Leisk's 2-2 netted him second and Lechien snagged third with a 3-3 score. In the first 500cc molO, Hondamounted Willy Simons grabbed the holeshot and led the field around on lap one. Myerscough had moved into second place, and Mike Larson was right behind in third. Myerscough and Larson both roosted by Simons on lap two and were locked in a tight battle for the lead. Watts also picked· off Simons on lap two and was in close contact with the lead duo. Myerscough and Larson were swapping the lead back and forth on lap three with Watts lurking in third. Larson jammed by Myerscough in the back part of the track and assumed the lead. Larson had no trouble putting some distance on Myerscough, who now had his hands full with the hard-charging Watts. Watts railed by Myerscough on lap four and set out after Larson. Larson's lead was short-lived as he went off the track on lap four. Watts and Myerscough both flew past Larson, dropping the Kawasaki rider back to third. Watts quickly moved out to a small cushion on the secondplace duel between Myerscough and Larson. The second-place battle raged for two laps as Myerscough and Larson battled with less than a bike length between them. Watts held a rapid pace out front and managed to keep the secondplace battle from becoming a battle for the lead. Myerscough fought off Larson until the closing laps when Larson bailed off and was slow in gelling up. At the checkered flag the top three tood Watts, Myerscough and Simons. In the second molO, Myerscough powered his Honda inlO the lead in turn two with Larson in tow. Myerscough and Larson led the charge for the first two laps, but Watts had soon sliced his way from fourth into second and was reeling in the leader. By lap three, Myerscough and Watts were again hooked up in a battle for the lead. At the end of lap three, Watts pulled alongside Myerscough on the front straight and tried 10 outbrake him going into the hairpin at the end of the straight. Watts jumped his way past Myerscough on lap four and then SlaTted to build an advantage. Watts maintained a steady margin on Myerscough until lap six when Myerscough got on the gas al1d zeroed in on Watts. In the back section of the track Myerscough blasted past Watts and tried to put some distance between himself and WallS. The gap remained at around six bike lengths for the next three laps. Watts managed to close in on Myerscough on the final lap and tried every line he could to get by, but Myerscough held him off to grab the molO win and the overall victory. Watts' 2-2 netted him second and Larson took third with a 5-3 tally. In the 125cc class action, Ricky Ryan took the initial lead in the first molO only to be passed on lap one by Kawasaki's Eddie Warren. Warren built upa faij-)y secure margin by the halfway point of the molO, but Ryan caught and passed Warren on lap five and SlaTted to stretch out a lead. Suzuki's Surratt started to charge to the front of the pack, picking off Warren and closing in on Ryan. On lap seven Ryan had Surratt right on his rear fender and both rider swapped the lead back and forth for the whole lap. Surrall went around the outside Gary Semics (951. Rex Staten (1 RI and Kenny Zahrt (1 Zllead the Vet Pros through turn two in the second moto. Ryan on lap eight and never looked back, holding off Ryan all the way to the flag. In the second I25cc moto, Ty Davis led the charge out of the first turn, holding Lowell Thompson and Eddie Hicks at bay. First moLO winner Surratt had problems and dropped out early in lap one. By lap two Davis had put a distance on an intense three~ way bailie for second place among Thompson, Hicks, and Bader Manneh. Davis stayed clear of the combat over second place until lap seven when Manneh, who had worked his way into second two laps earlier, blazed his way into a position to challenge for the lead. Manneh hounded Davis for the entire white flag lap, but couldn't get into the lead. Davis took the win, but Manneh snagged the overall witha 4-2 score; Davis was second with a 14-1 score. The 80cc Expert class was an all Suzuki' Jimmy Gaddis show. Gaddis took the lead on lap one of each molO and was never challenged. Gaddi piloted his Suzuki LO commanding leads in both mOlOS 10 walk away with first-place honors. Jeff Emig recorded econd- and third-place finishes 10 garner second overall honors ahead of Jimmy Button. The Vet Pro class was repeat of last week's action with Rex Slaten picking up victories in both molOS. Staten passed Zahrt and Semics early in the first molO and went on to take a convincing win. In the second molO, Zahrt got the holeshot, but Staten again got past and never looked back.
