tended to develop ruts and holes in the faster lines; the bumps caused racers problems all night long. "At the end I started remembering where the bumps and holes were and started squaring them and going around," said Jorgensen. "Coming out of turn two I almost put my handlebars on the rail trying to miss the hole that Pete (Hames) almost went down in." "Coming out of turn two you had to ta ke the very inside to miss the bumps," .Cannon agreed. "And in turns three and four there were a bunch of whoops right in the middle." During the Junior main event, the stuller bumps in turns three and four took their toll on 1986Junior National Champion Bryan M Dowell. Semi-winner M Dowell was running second on lap six of the Junior main, fighting for the lead wi th heat race winner and first-year Junior Steve Azeltine. McDowell lost the front end of his Harley going into turn three and flew through the hay bales and into the wall. His tumbling mOl.Orcycle missed McDowell, but he remained motionless for several minutes before finally stepping illlo the ambulance under his own power. Race announcer Larry Huffman later reported that McDowell was not seriously injured. Harley-mounted Azeltine, who hails from Aldergrove, British Columbia, reclaimed tile top Spot during the single-file restan and powered away to win the main event over heat mce winner Anthony Holesclaw, McDowell's brother Bobby, heat-race winner James Harrell and Ken King. Finishing in slots six through nine were Kit Farley of Salt Lake City, Utah, Craig Howard, John Lundgren and Kevin Todd. McDowell, who did not complete the race, was the official 10th place finisher. Junior standout Brian Villella of Michigan was on hand for the Pomona event, but failed to qualify for the 12-lap main when hi bike's engine went sour during the first Junior heal. Villella dropped out of the heat on lap three with his engine smoking badly. During the same heat race, Yamahamounted John Penner of Hesperia, California, crashed in turn three and was u'ansponed by ambulance to a nearby hospital. He was not injured seriouslv and returned to the track before tl;e end of theevent, according to a spokesman for Great American Media. Shonly after the stan of the IO-Iap Pro!Am final, the race turned into a spread-out. follow-the-leader affair with heat-race winner Darell Davis of Bremenon, Washington taking the point position and holding it all the way to the checkered flag. He was followed home in the uneventful race by Todd Adams, Kris Kiser, who won the second Pro! Am heat, Todd Bridges, who had earlier clai med the Pro!Am semi, and Mike McDonnell. Roundingoutthe top 10 were Sean Plymale, Warren, Oregon's Rex Fisher, George Cooper, Ron Sheets - who won the third Pro!
