Deemie dashes to Square Deal MX By Larry McBride BINGHAMTON, NY, NOV. 23 Steve Deemie, proving his elevation to expert status was warranted, captured his first Expert class victory at Square Deal Riders M/C's MX today. Deemie took an early lead over Tim Ferguson closely followed by previously unbeaten Randy Gardner after lap one. On circuit two Gardner moved past Ferguson for second and challenged Deemie, however, Ferg!Json regained second the next lap ~Xlt ing the slick, muddy wooded sectlon, then concentrated on overtaking Deemie. Ferguson closed to within striking distance on several occasions, but Deemie took his Honda to a near perfect ride for victory number one in the Expert class. . Competing in two classes, the Senior A, and 200cc class, Russ Baldwin emerged as the only double event winner, capturing the checkered flag in both_ Tbe Kawasaki-mounted Baldwin had little difficulty taking and maintaining the lead while lapping nearly half the field during the 30-minute race before getting the win in the 200cc class. Baldwin's Senior A victory, the over-30 group, was more demanding however, when Carl Nabinger held the front position for the first four laps while Baldwin was uackingdown ] im Spencer for second. Spencer took over first after Nabinger retired with bike problems, leaving Baldwin to pursue Spencer for first. Keeping on the pressure, Baldwin and Spencer exchanged positions late in the race, giving Baldwin his second win of the day. Working his way from the back of the pack, Bruce Miller steadily sliced through the field and also passed Spencer for second place with only minutes remaining in the moto. For a while in the first moLO, it appeared that Rabe would receive a late-molO challenge by Mall Arena OT by Gary Fargo. Neither of these riders, however, could shake free from each other to reel in Rabe. The moLO ended with Rabe the winner and Fargo second. In the second moLO, it was Arena with the holeshot, and he looked comfortable and at ease. Two laps into the moto, Rabe got by Arena and just kept on the gas LO take the checkered £lag three laps later. Fargo again got by Arena, but it was newcomer Russ Scott that took second bebind Rabe. Scott handled the rockers better than anyone in the event and there are three sets per lap LO negotiate. In Intermediate class action, the "Marathon Man" award should have been presented to Tim McClintock, as he rode both the 125 and 250cc classes, first on a Kawasaki 125 then a Honda 250 - he won all four molOS. The 125cc bash was the most challenging for McClintock. Fastest of the rider behind McClintock in both moLOS was Richard Mussman. The fatigue factor worked heavily against Mussman, and it was the super conditioning and inspired riding of McClintock that made the difference. _ Results PEE WEE; 1. John Carilli (Suz). MINI BEG: 1.
